I have a small job to bend stainless pipe. The customer wants it to have the brushed look. I'm thinkin while my bender draws the pipe through its gonna scratch it regardless, so I'm gonna maybe start without a brushed product. The question I have is... anyone have a tip on how to achieve the brushed look on such pipe (after it's bent)??
Reply:Start with the #4 material, it's much easier to repair the scratches than start from zero. If it's a one time job, I'd go with a clean and strip disc to remove the scratches from the die, then emery cloth or a cut sanding belt, and then maroon scotch brite.Ian TannerKawasaki KX450 and many other fine tools

Reply:#4 is a standard brushed finished on almost 80% of the stainless job arround you, what Fortyonethirty said is the normal good way to do, get your tube already #4 (brushed finished) and then bend the tube and then repair the scratches. You seem to not be experienced with stainless, so i assume that you don't have polishing tools, if you bend the tube carefully you'll be able to keep the job realy clean and don't have a lot of scratches to repair, and those small scratches made from the die are easy to remove by hands sand paper and some slice of belt scotchbright and work the same way as polishing shoes by hands.Another tips to avoid the scratch is to cover the bend section with cardboard paper or any thin plastic pelicle like SaranWrap and even some maskingtape for a maximum protection!Calculator > Bevel Square
