Hi Chaps, latest project just finished tonight, hope it will burn well, I'm having a test run tomorrow hopefully,This my first go at a log burner, intended for out-door patio use. Even managed to incorporate a cooking area on top, Lucky find was the stainless lid at a bootsale for 10p, then had to fit a collar to the top edge to make the lid fit, Glass door is obviously a pyrex shallow dish, was not sure about air inlets so fitted one below the door level and one above, both fully adjustable. I suppose if they burn anything requiring air from underneath the ash-pan could be left open a little way,Getting it shot blasted by a mate on Monday and then a coat of high/temp paint, If you spot anything obvious let me know so that I can alter it this week-endDon't pay too much attention to the chimney "cowl" just a last minute daft idea,Total Cost;              Paint... £7-50     Door Handle.. £1-70   (Screwfix chipping hammer)        Glass door..£0-30p  (boot sale)     Stainless lid.. £0-10p  (boot sale) Attached ImagesLast edited by zapster; 07-02-2011 at 10:13 AM.Lincoln SP-170 MigHypertherm powermax 45Lorch T220 AC/DC TigButters FM 215 synergic MigKemppi 180 adaptive mig RULES ARE FOR THE OBEDIENCE OF FOOLS AND THE  GUIDANCE OF WISE MEN.

Reply:I kinda like it Gordon. Looks similar in size to the small Warm Morning stoves I used to see around when I was a youngster. If you have a good mineral wool gasket (or similar) for the Pyrex, I'd say you're good to go.As a bonus if you get ticked at the neighbor you could get some turf from across the Irish sea and burn it on laundry day! Reply:Thank you matt,                        The pyrex door is bedded onto a woven fireproof material about 3mm thick. I'v got my fingers crossed that it will burn O.K. on its trial run tomorrow,Last edited by zapster; 07-02-2011 at 10:15 AM.Lincoln SP-170 MigHypertherm powermax 45Lorch T220 AC/DC TigButters FM 215 synergic MigKemppi 180 adaptive mig RULES ARE FOR THE OBEDIENCE OF FOOLS AND THE  GUIDANCE OF WISE MEN.

Reply:Looks good Gordon. What was the body and base made from? What does the name "lag burner" mean? Not burning "old lags" I hope!Oops, the penny dropped from your first post, I see it is a log burner!Let us know how the test firing goes.Last edited by zapster; 07-02-2011 at 10:15 AM.Reason: Typos damned typos!"One of the things we have to be thankful for is that we don't get as much government as we pay for." Reply:I like it. Mini pot bellied stove kinda. The ash pan is a good idea.Last edited by zapster; 07-02-2011 at 10:16 AM."The things that will destroy America are prosperity at any price, peace at any price, safety first instead of duty first, the love of soft living and the get rich quick theory of life." -Theodore Roosevelt
Reply:That is a fine lookin' job, Gordon!! Looks like a modernized version of the little potbellied stove. I'll bet it works great. I really like utilising the pyrex bowl, really ingenious.                                                     MikeLast edited by zapster; 07-02-2011 at 10:16 AM.Ol' Stonebreaker  "Experience is the name everyone gives to their mistakes"Hobart G-213 portableMiller 175 migMiller thunderbolt ac/dc stick Victor O/A setupMakita chop saw

Reply:Body and base were made from a 19Kg propane bottle, cut off the top and transferred to make the base,Then removed the bottom ring to form the legs.I was really surprised how thin those bottles are, only around 3mm thick. First project using my new Powermax45 for the cutting, It just makes cutting metal a pleasure and so quick too.I set up the bottle on a cheap revolving base, then mounted the plasma torch on a bracket, pulled the trigger and spun the bottle and it sliced off the top in seconds, easier than taking the top off a boiled egg, with a lovely clean finish,Last edited by zapster; 07-02-2011 at 10:17 AM.Lincoln SP-170 MigHypertherm powermax 45Lorch T220 AC/DC TigButters FM 215 synergic MigKemppi 180 adaptive mig RULES ARE FOR THE OBEDIENCE OF FOOLS AND THE  GUIDANCE OF WISE MEN.

Reply:Made a couple of small additions today, Found a chromed grid and fixed it to become a removable "keep hot rack" and a keyhole slot to enable the lid to be hung out of the way when not required. Reply:Finally finished.                      Added a couple of handles and another higher position for the warming grid, Then a friend shot blasted it ( !" nozzle, it took less than 5 minutes)  prior to a coat of heat resistant paint.Lit it to generate some heat to cure the paint, No paint in the cooking area of course but I did season the hot plate with very hot oil. Looking forward to trying it out this week-end.  Gordon. P.S, Sorry about the side ways photo's. Can't seem to delete them and repost,   Gordon. Reply:Mick 120             The gill clean-up will be no problem as the stainless steel expanded metal is not fixed in place, It will lift straight out for a good scrub.Lincoln SP-170 MigHypertherm powermax 45Lorch T220 AC/DC TigButters FM 215 synergic MigKemppi 180 adaptive mig RULES ARE FOR THE OBEDIENCE OF FOOLS AND THE  GUIDANCE OF WISE MEN.

Reply:Very nice!Ian TannerKawasaki KX450 and many other fine toolsFor grill cleanup I might install a drain hole with a valve.  You'd have to install an elbow in the firebox. If you had the drain hole you could just fill the grill with water, let it boil a little, and drain the junk away.  I use this on my flat plate griddle and it works wonderfully.Dynasty200DX w/coolmate1MM210MM VintageESAB miniarc161ltsLincoln AC225Victor O/A, Smith AW1ACutmaster 81IR 2475N7.5FPRage3Jancy USA1019" SBAEAD-200LE
