Reply:Certainly a steal if it works. I wouldn't wait if you are interested. It won't stay for  long at that price.I've been very happy with the Maxstar 200 DX I bought from a member here. Reply:And a update. He still has it, it has been barely used his friend bought never used it and friend gave it to him(I need friends like that). He is currently in Miami wont be back for another week(perfect for me). He has 2 other big welders so he doesn't use it either, said hes in no hurry to sell and will hold it for me for as long as I want.Well if all comes through I will be buying this 100% for sure.
Reply:Good luck. The Maxstar 200 is probably one of the nicest 110/220v machines bar a Dynasty there is out there. I've been quite impressed by what I've been able to do with mine on 110v power so far.Go to Millers site and download the manual for it. It will tell you the start up sequence that will let you pull up the arc starts and run time on the machine. That will tell you how "new" this really is. Be sure and test this out. The story seems a bit "odd", but possibly true. Be advised there have been scams on non functioning machines like Dynasty's in the past where guys post them up super cheap looking for a "sucker" who'll buy 1st and ask questions later thinking they are getting a deal.Last edited by DSW; 02-20-2013 at 10:16 PM..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Reply:Originally Posted by 7A749Yes & no.My take: It's not a bad price at all for it.At the same time, I've seen good used XMT 304s sell for that too & the 304 is a far more flexible multi process inverter machine. Of course, it all depends on what you plan on doing with it. If you just plan on stick & DC TIG, yeah. If you want to have MIG capability down the road, I would save my money for a multiprocess machine instead.I try to look at what I may be doing down the road. Buy something you can grow into. You wouldn't get hurt at that price, maybe even make a little money if you wanted to sell it later.Me, I would shoot for the XMT 304. It'll do almost everything that machine will plus MIG weld.IMHO of course

They stick weld wonderfully & TIG just as well. MIG with one is excellent & it will also run a spool gun with a WC 24 connected to it.Pound for pound, almost impossible to beat its flexibility. I own one & love it. I bought it 4 years old, but brand new in the box, still in the plastic for $750.If this ones gone, just keep looking. You'll find a deal if you're patient.Good luck on it man.

Reply:We had no issues on 110v power at the tech school running 125 amps doing  tig on 1/8" steel testing out my Maxstar 200 when I 1st got it. The only thing I don't know is what amp breaker that circuit is in the booths for 110v power. It might be a 30 amp since it's set up so guys can grind in the booths. I ran 1/8" 7018 @ 125 amps on it at the shop last Friday off a dedicated 20 amp 110v breaker and 25' extension cord..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Reply:you dont live to far from me! I like my maxstar, it paid for itself the week after i got it too! does this machine come with leads? or any accessories? i bought mine just a machine. I got a good deal but I had to buy leads, and then eventually a tig setup. but it was still worth it, and I have a scratch start tig rig i can use on any machine!

Reply:Also keep this in mind,At least for the Dynasty 200, you can convert an SD to a DX for around $100.  That's what Cruizer has posted numerous times.  He says the Dynasty SD has all the pulse technology built in and it just requires changing the input face.  I'm not sure if that applies to the Maxstar or not, but they're physically the same machine except for AC.You can ask Cruizer on Millerwelds.com.TA Arcmaster 300CM3XMT 304S22P12 suitcase feederX-Treme 12VSOptima pulserTA161SMaxstar 150STLHypertherm PM45OP setupStihl 020AVP, 039, 066 Magnum

Reply:@ 7a749 I had the opportunity to pick up a slightly used xmt304 last year for 300 it was a three phase though. I guess the guy had three phase in his last place moved to Florida and no longer had three phase, said he just used it for stick welding or something and had no idea on wiring but that the machine wasn't possible to be wired to single phase, I called miller and they claimed that the machine was in fact capable of being wired for single phase, the guy swares it was 3 phase only. I ended letting it walk, someone got a heck of a deal

Reply:That's a pretty good deal, IF it works, and considering it is an AC/DC TIG machine. the price jumps up quickly when you add the AC capability.A pedal or hand amptrol will be expensive....so take that into account. You can probably get away with using this without one for a while, but you'll definitely want to get the pedal at some point. It's a Miller, so parts and accessories are probably the most expensive out there. If this guy HAS the pedal, etc. you would be wise to see if you can get the pedal for another $100 or so.... I have no clue why a new pedal costs $300 when it is such a simple thing....but I scored a "Hotfoot" pedal on ebay for $60 from arczone.com . Now and then they sell the "for repair" units for a fraction of the cost...my pedal looks totally unused and the cable is pristine. It is a very well built item, probably better than OEM. I haven't started troubleshooting yet, but I bet it just needs a new potentiometer (a $10 part).Oh yeah....there MAY be a way to see how many strikes have been made with the machine. Some units will display diagnostic data if you push the right buttons. Also, you should have a few pulse modes on this...I know my Maxstar 150 STH has a few preset pulsing modes.Last edited by ScubaSteve; 02-23-2013 at 07:35 PM.

Reply:Yea I asked for pictures of the info tag, and it just said 3 phase, no additional info, I did call miller and they said three phase and single, I think the machine was a 2008 model, mabey I should have jumped on it, he was asking 600, but not many place around here other than some commercial shops have 3 phase, so lots of people would over look it, he was so tired of hanging on to it, he asked me to just make a offer
Reply:Originally Posted by 7A749I just looked at the tech manual for the 460 only model & sure enough, it only lists 3 phase input power. It will run on single phase tho. Never heard of a three phase only XMT 304.Still, it was most likely a 460 only model so you would have spent the money you saved on a transformer to run it.

Reply:I paid $600 for mine its a DX that had a significant dent in the case.  It stick welded fine and all the buttons up front worked. To convert a non DX maxstar to a DX is more expensive than converting a Dynasty.  The only difference in the Dynasty is the front panel which can be bought for something like $100.  On the Maxstar, the front panel is more like $240 and their are significant differences on the circuit board.  Of course all this varies from model year to model year.On my $600, I bought a new case (and some of the stickers) + clean and tightened all the internals and replaced some of the fittings for gas handling.    Looks and works perfectly except for small ding on the front panel (which is why I remember the price).I picked up a new Miller pedal from someone who tried to hook it up to a Longlevity - he realized it didn't fit and sold it to me for $50 via Craigslist.  I had an extra regulator, picked up wire from an LWS that had 22ft left on the spool (Why I needed 22ft for a 'portable' machine I'm not sure) - since it was left over, I wasn't picky on color (blue and orange).  Someone either here or on Miller's web site sold me a WP 17 with gas lenses, just had to get the right DINSE connector.   Because I also have a bigger Dynasty, I justified the expenses as being for both machines.  Bottom line, my $600 welder cost me over $900 to get it welding...  Last time I check they were going bare on Ebay for $1000-$1100 (with pretty pictures) so I don't think I did badly. For $700 I think you will be ahead of the game on cosmetics. And quite frankly - I never use the pulse option.  It works, I've played with it, but it really doesn't do much for me (I notice I can get the puddle to freeze faster when I'm pulsing - I don't have enough experience to figure out when that would be more useful - I don't have issue welding upside down so....?)Con Fuse!Miller Dynasty 350Millermatic 350P-Spoolmatic 30AMiller Multimatic 200Hypertherm PowerMax 1000G3Miller Maxstar 200DX

Reply:Just got back from using the machine the arc is great, not much run time, and even if it did have alot of run time the machine was never pushed to the limits cause all he really does is body work he said he normally runs it at 50 amps for tig and thats it LOL, thats not even his main machine he has a shopmaster that he uses. You could tell it hadn't been used for a long time cause the tig hose was like stiff as fwonk and couldnt move it. Just dust and that is all.
Reply:Just brought it home right now! Monday a guy is coming to wire my outlet. The paint is like near perfect. Took a wet rag to all the leads and cables, and machine and it cleaned up nicely. The stinger is really short, and has never been used lol. The tig torch's hose is stiff as fwonk, does anyone know if it can be made flexible again or should I purchase a new hose for it, really no rush cause I have a Master Weld 17 air cooled already, this looks like a 9 series torch am I correct? Also need to find a cap for the remote socket.
