Hi all, I am new to this forum. I am also very new to the internet, so bear with me.. I have some questions about 6G mig and I am working on passing my pipe certification test..  I am trying to weld 6 inch sch 40 pipe at 6g and my problem is my root is good on the top half , but flat on the bottom half . I need more penetration on the the bottom.  I am using 1\8 gap with a 1\16 to 0 land. My main problem for my fill is I am getting to much build up and the same for my cover pass. The test calls for solid wire and I am wondering if you can give some suggestions. Such as voltage, and wire speed and what type of gas is best.. Right now I am using 90 argon and 10 CO2 and .035 solid wire.  I am using a 225 Lincoln MIG welder.. I already have my certs for structural and 6g stick.Any help with this I would greatly appreciate..Last edited by danka; 03-14-2013 at 07:55 PM.
Reply:most places use 75/25 gas for short arc.You need a little more gap to get penetration on the bottom, 5/32 to 3/16ths. Keep the land. You have to angle your wire back up into the ID side of the puddle.
Reply:I appreciate that info.. I am also wondering what wire speed and voltage should I use for filler and cap? Should I use the same as I use for the root pass?
Reply:no, you need to turn it up hot to make sure you don't get lack of fusion in your fillers.
