Frame wall thickness for a fire pit.I’m planning on building an octagon fire pit with 1.5” square tubing for a top and bottom frame about 5’ across. What thickness do you recommended?I live in Ohio. It will be outdoors year round.I plan to side the fire pit with expanded metal or sheet metal I have from an old project. I will cut fancy designs in the walls with the school’s plasma cutterDave ReberWadsworth Ohio
Reply:What thickness metal do you have?  Eigth of an inch sounds good.I offer three choices: Good, Fast, & Cheap. You may pick two.Hobart AC/DC StikMate LXHarbor Freight AD HoodHarbor Freight Industrial Chop SawDeVilbis 20 Gallon, 5 HP Compressor
Reply:For the frame i do not have much of anything so I will have to buy what ever. The walls would be 1/8 I think, I have to look.Dave ReberWadsworth Ohio
Reply:Here's the one I finished not too long ago. Main frame is 1.5 x .125 square tube, outer frame around the tile is 1/2 x 1/16 and the fire box is 1/8 plate Attached ImagesFire!, Fire! Oh wait, that's my torch...Lincoln PT-225 TIGLincoln 175 MIG

Reply:How do you clean it out?  Think I'd have put a door on it and a stand off grate on the bottom for make up air.Looks good though!
Reply:How does the lawn do with it that close?  Does it dry it out/burn it?  Just curious as I would be in the same boat if I made one (meaning, I would have to place it somewhere over my lawn)The Lord has declared, "This is my work and my glory--to bring to pass the immortality and eternal life of man"  Moses 1:39Link: My name is John, and I am a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.-- ColdCreekWorks.com --

Reply:Boostin - it didn't last long enough to get warm kaferhaus - I just used a small shovel - it really isn't a big deal - I'm working on a log holder to get air under itjdh239 - it now sits on 4 - 18" patio stones, so I guess the grass is dead underneath Fire!, Fire!
