gate, out for delivery

Here is a gate that I just finished. I copied the design from one on here that irish fixit had built. The outer frame is 3x3x.095 and the angle is 1.5x1.5x3/16This gate is 80 inches high by 237.5 inches wide and swings from a set of hinges that I built from cold rolled round bar and DOM tubing. The hinges are huge.the owner of the place had installed the post himself, and I was quite worried about the post not holding this behemoth. I knew for sure that the post was going to move some when I hung this bad boy on there, but had no idea how much.I got her tacked up and removed the jacks and by some dumb luck, the post flexed the exact amount to make the gate perfectly, dead nuts, level.There is no wheel on the gate, it just swings freely.Miller 302GMIller 12RC SuitecaseMIller 30A spoolgunHF-251D-1WP17 Tig torchSmith HD torchHypertherm 45Jet drill pressHF 7X12 wet cut horizontal band sawPlasmacam CNC table

Reply:I prefer to carry them on a trailer, but this one was too big for my trailer. I put a couple brackets on the side of my step van, and nearly killed myself getting that bad boy up there. I figured it weighted about 400 lbs.I figured on just strapping the gate to the bracket, but I ended up putting a nice hot tack between the bottom of the gate and the bracket. I just did not want to lose it during transport.For me, there is a big difference in handling a 16 foot gate vs handling a 20 foot gate. Those real big ones are just a lot for one guy to handle.I have another job coming up this week that is going to be another 20 foot gate and 40 feet of fence.
