Was wondering if anyone has welded with the Diversion 180 and how they liked it?SPECIFICALLY, I am interested in how it operates at it's 'real world' MAXIMUM capacity when used @ 110v ..  Both Steel and Aluminum.Cheers,/Jman...Miller Diversion 165120 amp Buzz BoxVictor Oxy/Ace Oxy/LPGSmith "Little" Oxy/LPGHypertherm Powermax 30Lot's of Misc. tools n' crap....
Reply:While I have not run that machine, a look at the manual will give you some basics.http://www.millerwelds.com/om/o246522c_mil.pdfFor the Diversion 180 on 115v it lists the max at 125amps. 125 amps on alum will probably get you 1/16" with no problem, possibly 3/32" depending on joint configuration. Most will set a tig at 150 amps and do 1/8" alum. and on 115v you won't get that out of the Diversion 180. With steel the usual range is 90-125 amps for 1/8" steel, again depending on joint config, so you would get that no problem, but 3/16" you'd end up in the wanting 125 amps plus and thats not going to work well. I also note that the graph on 115v is flat at 125 amp output, so you won't get say 130 or 140 amps even for a short time on 115v.Also remember that to get this you'd be running that machine at 26.5 amps input. Way more than you'd ever get on any standard breaker. Most locations you'd have 15 amps of 115v availible. Since they rate that machine at 60 amp output at 11.3 amps input, you would probably get 70-75 amps output before the 15 amp breaker tripped. Not much at all with steel, say enough to do 14ga if you use the 1amp / .001 rule. Forget about alum with those amps unless you are super good at very thin alum. On a 20 amp breaker, you might push it to 100 amps if you were lucky before the breaker would trip. A bit more umph with steel, but still way to low for all but very lite gauge alum. Remember we are talking about dedicated breakers with no other loads on them..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Government programs, once launched, never disappear. Reply:My friend uses his Diversion 165 plugged into his Bobcat 225's 220v outlet to do mobile aluminun tig.  I use my TA185 plugged into my Bobcat 250's 220v outlet to do the same thing.   Both setups work good for us.  I don't see being able to do much mobile aluminum on 110v job site power.  Plugged into 220 volts from the generator, you have much more aluminum capability.  Having 110v tig capability would be nice for doing thin stainless in restaurants, especially inside malls where there's no way to get the truck/generator anywhere near the weld site.  This would be the only reason I would want to swap my 220v-only TA185 for a Dynasty 200, with it's 110v capability.  It would be cheaper for me to keep the TA185 and add a Maxstar 150STH for 110v tig stainless jobs that are too far from the truck, than to buy a Dynasty 200.  If I didn't already own the TA185, then the Dynasty would be the best choice.  The dual-voltage Diversion 180 would be an acceptable lower-price alternative to the Dynasty.MM350P/Python/Q300MM175/Q300DialarcHFHTP MIG200PowCon300SMHypertherm380ThermalArc185Purox oaF350CrewCab4x4LoadNGo utilitybedBobcat250XMT304/Optima/SpoolmaticSuitcase12RC/Q300Suitcase8RC/Q400Passport/Q300Smith op
