Exciter

I just bought a Miller 225 NT gas welder with a Onan 16 in it. It has 380 hrs. and was not used much, but left outside. It welds fine on Run but wont kick up on Idle. Heard this could be the exciter. Miller has no list for an exciter in the parts list or do I know its location. I did see what looks like a solenoid with linkage to the carb on the top left side of the engine and thought this may be it. I heard the exciter would be a starting point for this problem. Plugged in a grinder same thing, low RPM on run/idle and fine on run. Any help would be appreciated ..thanks in advance.                                                                               A newbie to your site..
