Water Tank Welding Pics

I was driving by and saw that my local water authority is constructing a new tank.I'm taking a guess that they use a semi-auto guided wire feed on something like this?  Would the wire be Submerged arc, hard wire with shielding gas, flux core or dual shield?I have driven by since and saw the two engine drives hanging from the top of the tank but have yet to be able to stop by when any welding was taking place.Anyone have any experience with type of construction?I'm just curious..Here are a few pics, I will try and get more....Thanks for looking.. Reply:TIG?   Good guess is that it is done with a wire feed welder.  Possibly FCAW-G (aka dual-shield aka gas-shielded fluxcore) or FCAW-S (selfshielded fluxcore).  The best laid schemes ... Gang oft agley ...
Reply:i ran a job at blue plains shiiiiitplant in dc around 1988 , we put in some tanks like that with all 6010 as i recall..

Reply:it's been a while, but it was in southeast along the potomac..puke? we used to eat our lunch onthe old clarifier bridges over the old sludge tanks.. in summer there would be more tomatoes growing in there than you coudl  count...
Reply:You can actually use all three on a setup like that.  The sub arc typically uses a different joint design to support the flux, and is less common.  Innershield is probably the most common, as it doesn't require them to run anything other than power leads.  Our subs used a fair bit of it on our tanks out here.

Reply:They built a tank like that back in the early 80'S behind my bass players house and it was all stick welded..No idea what rods but there were thousands of stubs on the ground.....zap!I am not completely insane..Some parts are missing Professional Driver on a closed course....Do not attempt.Just because I'm a  dumbass don't mean that you can be too.So DON'T try any of this **** l do at home.

Reply:Thats CBI (Chicago bridge &iron) doin the work. One of my close buddies built tanks for the same company. Its a self-guided wire feed machine. From what my buddy told me the only manual welding they did was if the machine made a mistake. And if it did the machine kept moving and they would make the repair with stick. I know for a fact he was using 5/32 7018 H4R because he dumped a whole bunch of off with me one day that he had in his truck (not like I ever use 5/32 at the house, lol).Cool seeing what he was talking about.
