Has anyone built their own warehouse type rolling ladder? I am debating building one or just buying one. I need it for my garage as I have shelving extending up to 10 feet. Reply:I have made a couple of 6 footer for the roof of a Physical Plant. Mine didn't have spring loaded wheels. Tilt it like a wheel barrow to move. However moving it around was not a concern on the roof. Some sort of retractable wheel would be necessary/convenient in a building. I used expanded metal for the tread. Not a difficult build if you can do the wheel system.

Reply:The telco industry used to always use Putnam rolling ladders. Oak and they last forever. I imagine steel with tread plate steps is probably better for a shop environment tho. It's about the only thing that would hold up against smashin and crashin. Price a putnam and that Northern Tool ladder will look like a blue light special.
