Reply:Looks like it's going to be a fun project.  And what a smoking deal you got for the frame.Common sense in an uncommon degree is what the world calls wisdom.
Reply:Very cool.  You are going to have a lot of fun with that project.Yes I can tack it for you.    I know that won't hold but that is what you asked me to do.  Millermatic 350P XR Aluma-Pro push/pullMillermatic 185/spool gunMiller Dialarc 250 HF Water cooledThermal Dynamics Plasma
Reply:thats going to be one fast cart. my buddy and i built a shifter cart in school with an old 3 wheeler engine and i hardly got it out of 2nd gear before i was scared lol. my buddy was clocked at 75 in 3rd. we built the frame and all it took a total 6 weeks working hard on it maybe 2 to 3 days a week. advice is draw some things up twice and double think everything. we spent a lot of time taking apart things and redoing parts that we didnt draw up or double think before we put it on. good luck keep us updated and maybe I will be able to chime in a bit.
Reply:Your cart lift system (bucket & milk create) looks like something I would do Qualified & experienced at welding scrap metal

Reply:Looks like you got a good starting point.  Now just don't half *** it from here on.  Take your time, do things right, spend some money if you have to.   IF you do that, it will be fun and reliable when done.  Plus, it will bring more money should you decide to sell it later on.Got any better pics of the suspension?  I'm trying to wrap my head around that single shock set up for both sides. My name's not Jim....

Reply:WHat kind of suspesion is that? it shares 1 shock for the whole front end? must be stuff if both wheels take a bump?
Reply:there it is! Attached Images
Reply:just curiours.. what would you all pay for the frame?
Reply:hard to say without seeing it in person, but the wheels/tires are prolly worth what you gave.My name's not Jim....
Reply:Holy god, I've been wanting to do that forever.  I should go back to my university and see if they'll sell me one of their old ones to do this with.  You definitely got a KILLER deal on that!  have fun, be safe, definitely get somebody else to talk through your ideas with - it'll save you the time of tearing it apart and redoing it 3-4 times like every project I rush through by myself.Millermatic 135Syncrowave 250
Reply:When done with it the thing to do is put a better roll bar on it with some wheelie bars and go bracket racing.......zap!I am not completely insane..Some parts are missing Professional Driver on a closed course....Do not attempt.Just because I'm a  dumbass don't mean that you can be too.So DON'T try any of this **** l do at home.
Reply:i like where this is going.i agree with Boostinjdm - dont half *** it - dont penny pinch either - spend the money and get good parts - that sucker could potentially haul *** and nothing would suck more than to total on the first run because of cheap parts - i cant wait to see your progress and the finished product!I break things for a living...

Reply:looks like an old FSAE (formula SAE) car intended for autocross.www.fsae.comautocross (called Solo racing by the sports car club of america)http://www.scca.com/hub.aspx?hub=3
Reply:Just a thought to consider, but given the material and what looks to be several rough years of abuse, you may want to pick up a dye pen kit and check every weld on that thing for cracks just to be safe.
Reply:starting take wire harness off/ well finished i should say. took pretty much everything i need off and lifted it up with the crain i bought from harbor freight.1 ton foldable 150.00 with 20% off coupon from 4x4 mag  120.00 well worth it Attached Images
Reply:Here's where you'll want to go for parts and pieces for that chassishttp://fsae.com/eve/forums/a/frm/f/412600868
Reply:just getting closer!
Reply:woops forgot the picture. Attached Images
Reply:its getting closer Attached ImagesJust FYI, that thing is NOT a race kart.  As someone mentioned it might be a solo car.  These are race karts.

Reply:Pretty awesome project!  Those cars are too freakin' cool!  When I went with a group to UT Arlington for an ASME conference their FSAE team broke out 3 of their cars and gave us a nice show of speed and agility.  Their older cars were running CBR600 engines (I think) and their newest car was running an Aprilia 500.  I tried to get a team together at my school, but the money wasn't there MikeConstans Fides et IntegritasLincoln Weldanpower 150 ACAirco Aircomatic MIGet CAV II w/ spoolgunMillermatic 30a wirefeeder

Reply:i have to create some brackets tommorow so the diffrential will hold tight and chain not get loose.also thinking ahead. do you guys think i should put a low pressure fuel pump on it?im pretty sure on bikes the fuel is gravity fed with a little sucksion from the carb.if its going to be mounted on the side....Thanks! Reply:wow. sick project... gotta ask though. does the maryland engineering team know that their racecar is gone? $200?? worth 5x that, haha

Reply:i will be filling my welding tanks up tommorow and getting a couple of parts for the kart!!!! WOOOO
Reply:If any fuel in your tank resides below the carb bowls, you will need a low pressure fuel pump.  I would probably use a universal fuel pump for 4 cylinder carbureted engines available for cheap at any auto parts store.  There is no "suction" whatsoever at the fuel side of the carbs on your bike engine.

Reply:If I had to take a shot in the dark, I would say that you have a vacuum operated petcock. The petcock doesn't flow fuel in the absence of vacuum so that a sticky float doesn't result in cylinders and crankcase full of fuel. The vacuum doesn't suck the fuel out of the tank, it merely pulls against a diaphragm, opening the petcock to allow fuel flow.

Reply:just got back from a very long vacation, also getting a 94 cbr 600 motor to put in it. did some thinking. it would just be a whole lot eaiser to get the correct motor for the car and put it in, and not cuting and using a oxy acly torch, aluminum welding.IT WILL BE EAISER !!!!!!FSAE CAR 1000cc Engine )))lincoln 125+argon conversion kit40cf acly 80 oxy= 97 jeep wrangler lifted 33" tires88 dodge dakota project truck
Reply:I was just going to say that. That`s a FSAE frame and the engine is limited to 600 cc!The frame`s are usually built out of thin chromemoly so it would be a good idea to check out for cracks. Reply:I would think that 350 or 400 cc would be crazy fast on that chassis.  A 1000 is insane.  It needs to be built so that  it will not flip over with a touch of the throttle.  Add wheelie bars and gear down significantly.  FYI:  Formula Atlantic cars are only 1600CC.Formula Atlantic Car:
Reply:I was curious about the Atlantic series and came across this: Starting in 2006, the series has been run exclusively with Swift 016.a chassis powered by Mazda-Cosworth MZR 2300 cm³ (2.3 L) DOHC inline-4 engines producing 300 bhp (224 kW). The cars are capable of speeds in excess of 175 mph (280 km/h).  300 hp wouldnt get you even close to those speeds in a street car.  I think I need one.Common sense in an uncommon degree is what the world calls wisdom.
Reply:any updates on this thing?
