So what are the big differences you guys notice with rods! For example I bought a pack of cheap brand 6013s from a farm supply store for 8euro(10us dollers)....I have bough esab, hilco and other top European brands for double the price same size box and there is zero difference in quality of the rods..they might smell a bit worse when burned but no difference. Or are most 6013s the same cheap or expensive! Do you only notice the difference with more profesional rods ie 7018. Or are you paying that bit more because of the name of the brand!Just courios as its always good to save some money as I burn through my fair share of rods

Reply:I think you'll find more variation in quality for the less expensive electrodes.  I have used what ever was available but prefer Lincoln.
Reply:I would say it depends what you are Welding. If you are just practicing and are going through a bunch of rods that are just going in the scrap, practice with cheap ones.  Yes the good ones will run a bit better but position, travel speed, angle can all be practiced and fine tuned with cheaper rods.Just my .02 worth

Reply:I wont waste my money on cheap rods, I buy Hobart or Lincoln, ESAB if need be. Cheap rods suck donkey balls.Disclaimer; "I am just an a$$hole welder, don't take it personally ."
Reply:Try stopping and restarting with a good and cheap electrode. Condoms (for the old farts) is to keep your "rods" dry (Silly rabbit).Miller thunderbolt 250Decastar 135ERecovering tool-o-holic ESAB OAI have been interested or involved in Electrical, Fire Alarm, Auto, Marine, Welding, Electronics ETC to name a just a few. So YES you can own too many tools.

Reply:We used exactly what Tozzi said. Hobart for bulk 6013, Lincoln for 6010 & 7018 and ESAB for everything else.  i dont even use the hobarts much anymore. the QC just isn't the same. We let new guys go to town with them on non critcal stuff.

Reply:I did see condoms at the dollar store once,, made me wonder......but they were mint flavored so I ended up  buying them for church picnics when they asked me to bring condiments.........don't go to that church anymore, well at least not the picnics.
