I'm a noob welder and have gotten lots of backfiring, the inside of my torch is all sooty and black inside. What's the best way to clean it?Also I'm getting a constant popping from my cutting torch, I've read it could be a bad tip seat, could the soot be causing this? Thanks!
Reply:possible causes of backfiring..dirty tip..gas flow too low not cooling torch..tip too close to the work...many many others...send the torch to a member here named oa doctor for repair..take some instruction in your area, its too dangerous to selfteach oa...

Reply:I had 2 handles and 2 cutting heads rebuilt for about120. Beadblasted, refaced seats, and new valves and orings! They look and act like new. I should have done this years ago!
