Free design software?

Hey I have seen some posts on other sites about projects and some of these guys have had plans that were made on the computer. I was just wondering if there was a FREE and easy to use program out there to help in designing a project. Reply:again, google sketchup. Super easy to use. and you get to see what your project will look like (save the final paint color) before you've even marked metal. Has helped me determine that more than a couple of my ideas wouldn't work, before I put the time and metal into trying to make them.There are no problems. There are only solutions. Reply:Google sketch up is the way to go for most all applications, but Sketchbook pro is pretty cool if you want to do more freehand drawing with a tablet. They have a very dedicated following which makes for lots of forum based support, and there many cool add-ons for doing more structured stuff.But it can't do what sketch-up does so it comes down to your own needs. One is free, and the express version of Sketchbook is free I believe so I guess you can play with both, but sketchbook really requires a tablet to get the full effect.
