Need your support

My name is John and recently entered into a contest to win $100,000 to help start up my business High Powered Mobile Welding and Repair. A total of 232 teams entered this contest and after going in front of a panel of judges ( like shark tank) I came in the top 12 finalists. This is where I need some help, the winner is picked from the top 12 by an online vote. If I could get some support from some fellow welders it would be much appreciated. Reply:I think it would probably be good to explain exactly why we're voting for you. I can't speak for the rest but I can tell you that everyone I've met here values their name and reputation because hundreds if not thousands of people visit here for information they can trust knowing that what they discover is, at best accurate and at worst, well enough researched so it's a best guess recommendation. I don't mean to be a killjoy but I know I only support people and things I know are capable and deserving.The votes or endorsements of the people here like Joker, Wookie, Dozer and the rest are well-valued and well-respected because they're usually right. That's important.

Reply:My Goal beyond winning the contest is to open a mobile welding truck that succeeds in my local area. I currently have an f-350 powerstroke with a trailblazer airpak on it. I have hand tools and power tools, but I've spent every last dime to get where I am now and this money would help run the business and pay off some debt. The contest is for local (Nevada) start up For Profit businesses. I was starting my business anyway so I thought I would give it a shot. Now it's come to an online vote, which I'm not thrilled about because its more of a popularity contest, I'd almost rather them just pick the winner but I'm not in charge.

Reply:High Powered,Don't take this the wrong way, but I'm not going to vote for you. not because of anything you've said or done, but because I'm not going to vote at all. I disagree with popularity contests when it comes to endorsing a business. A business should be built from the ground up not on a hand down. That being said. I hope you stay on the forrum and become a contributing member. Like it's been said before, had you been an established member who is contributing useful knowledge than you would be more than likely to get far more support. but as all can see you've only got 11 posts. 8 of whic are in this thread. There are a lot of very helpful very knowledgable people on here that will be an asset in your future ventures. Please do not throw that away. As it will help you in the future. It's tough starting out, and you've already got a good start, but these people have shown that they are very thoughtful, socially minded people. and it's a great group to be part of. Don't be affraid to ask questions and voice oppinions, just remember that respect is earned and that a lot of guys on here have a rough sense of humor.There are no problems. There are only solutions. Reply:Nice work...I was not asking for an alternative goal...It's like a scam letter because you showed us nothing, normally i wouldn't vote at all, basically for the same reasons as the HAMMER... I personally was looking for an answer of why I should give you a vote, I'm not a DEMOCRAT.....until you posted your pics, had not seen any of your work, and for the life of me couldn't understand a reason to give you a vote....maybe now not sure yet.. I guess i'm asking you to sell it  me a little harder than you did....I believe in helping people out, but.........sell it man.

Reply:I think the point I was making was missed by the OP.  Thorshammer said it well.  If you were a long time contributing member of the forum I would vote for you.  it it was someone like DSW, Zapster, ZT Fab, Shovelon or any other members here who go out of their way to help others and share their knowledge I absolutely would have voted for Them if they were in this type of competition.    I have seen people come on various forums as a new member many times just trying to basically scam members for something while pretending to promote a business that is supposed to help or whatever.  Members put in huge amounts of time helping them only to find out they are getting screwed.  I could give u several member names here that did just that, but I won't drag up the past again.  Those who have been here a while know very well what and who I am talking about.If I had not made the post I did, would you have come back here whether you won or not and continued to contribute to the forum.  I suspect not.  that is what I meant by a person using members.  I am on a few disability forums and the number of Spammers and Scammers that visit those forums pretending to be ligit user while trying to scam the members is horrendous so I apologize if you are not this kind of person. Reply:From  my point of view, this forum is all about chances. A no more giving group of people have I met as evidenced by Weld-o-Rama. These people will back you to the ends of the earth if you have the same virtues of honor, integrity, selflessness and ethic that they do. The drive for hours at the drop of a hat to help teach their art and passion to others. They tote hundreds of pounds of material and equipment just to share their expertise and all they ask in return is to live by the same code they do; that and a dot dog here and there and a few MGDs!
