Astralloy BP633 plate

I got an email the other day from someone i have done custom work on a Jeep(frame work,bumpers,skid plates..etc etc) that he has 15 sheets of 4'x8'x1/2" Astralloy BP633 steel he said he will sell at 275.00 a sheet and deliver to me for an extra 50.00(he lives about 2 hours from me).I was thinking of using at least 1 sheet of it to build a fab table,it would be one tough SOB.According to the Astralloy website this plate is one hell of a wear plate and ballistic plate and tough,but says it is not totaly necessary to pre heat as long you are not making long weld passes and can use 70 series rod and wire and 309 and 8018 or higher rods,My thoughts on the fab table would be that i will be using it alot for fab'n up 4x4 bumpers,skid plates,,etc and alot of axle work like welding the axle tubes to the housing and spring perches and other components so i will be using the table to build jigs to hold the axle and other parts while welding and cooling to prevent warpage as much as possible,so i'll be welding brackets and jig parts to the table quite often and even be pre-heating parts at times....Will this steel warp real easily from the heat when welding things to it and pre-heating parts?..will i be better off just spending the money on a 3/4" sheet of mild steel pate?I also thought of buying a few extra sheets of it to have because where i live i often have guys with dozers,tractors,logging/farming equipment etc asking if i can do repairs for them and this plate seems to be a perfect candidate for those repairs too.is 275.00 a good price?A direct link to the PDF file of all the info on the steel from Astralloy..http://www.astralloy.com/pdf/vplate_specs.pdfLast edited by FabCrazyGuy; 10-13-2011 at 03:22 AM.Lincoln Ranger 8 225Lincoln 180 ProMigMiller Maxstar 200DXInternational Ironworkers Local 70930+ years and counting
