As I said before, some of you guys are experts at this welding / fabricating thing, and rest of us just try not to get into any projects that will kill someone A fellow Jeeper on the Internet asked me if I would weld three pieces of metal together for him.  I asked him what he had in mind and he sends me this photo..Seems simple enough... what is it used for?, I ask. He sends me photo #2.We talk, there is nothing structural about this bracket, a small funnel with projectiles attaches to the 45 degree end of the bracket. Basically, the bracket needs to be strong enough to support approximately 2 pounds. Sounds simple and safe enough.... how long can it take to run a bead across three pieces of metal? so I says, sure I'll weld the bracket together for you..... Well there is a little more to it.. the bracket pieces don't exist, I have to fabricate them. BTW, there are about 6 holes that need to be drilled as well.  A little more work than I had in mind, but I need practice with my fabrication skills. I work cheap (cost of materials), so I don't expect any problems with my craftsmanship, or lack there of Here is the start of the project. 1 inch tube stock, 18 gauge, 3 foot length. $10.00 at my local home center. Here is view #1 of what the finished bracket should look like. I got fancy and capped off one end (the end you will see) of the horizontal piece. The total length of the bracket is 22 3/4 inches from tip to tip with a 6 inch offset. Here is the second view of what I hope the finished bracket will look like..... For all you guys who are dying to see my fancy welds  I can't show them to you because I ran out of wire, so I'll have to finish this project next weekend as that is the only time I have to work in the garage.... Besides, I ain't showing you my ugly beads.. If you haven't already figured it out, I'm serious about what I say in my signature line.....    .Last edited by little Jeep; 09-12-2011 at 10:09 AM.Qualified & experienced at welding scrap metal
Reply:It's a funnel holder for a shell reloader.Edit, looks like you figured that out.Last edited by llamafur; 09-12-2011 at 11:18 AM.

Reply:Cartridges really, shells go in a shotgun. Also, I bet you could sell him on the idea of welding up a support for his reloading bench. With all those presses mounted to that particle board he's definitely going to need it. Nothing fancy. Couple of pieces of small angle or square tube would help. Eventually he's going to pull the handle on that progressive press and the whole affair is going to end up in his lap.Eric

Reply:No one ever said that I work fast, but I work for cheap so I guess one offsets the other Anyway, after not touching this project for weeks, I finally finished it yesterday. Here it is painted Hammered Black.... literally the paint is still wet in this photo. Tomorrow, I'll go to Post Office to see what this will cost to ship to the other end of the Country. I know, you guys are really impressed with my fabrication skills Qualified & experienced at welding scrap metal

Reply:Originally Posted by DSWLooks good. I might have looked at some way to be able to redesign this so it can be broken down for shipping. Either a tube in tube idea or some sort of bracket so that it could be bolted together.

Reply:I went by the UPS store to get an estimate from them on shipping cost from the East Coast to the West.... UPS cheapest service was approximately $28.00. Today, I went to the Post Office.... man was that fun...  Anyway, the US Sanil mail will deliver the bracket for $10.50.... No bad. I failed to ask how long it would take to get to the West Coast, but I guess it really doesn't matter. Next time I do something like this, I'll keep shipping in mind Qualified & experienced at welding scrap metal
Reply:im confused. what exactly is the purpose of the thingy you built for him? why would he want a  "small funnel" with bullets attached to his press?if anyone was unwilling to work, neither should that one eat - 2 Thessalonians 3:10

Reply:A-yup, the guy that always wins is the shipper. $28 from UPS, what a deal. Now we know how they pay for all those commercials on the TV. If she fits, she ships, would you like insurance and tracking with that.

Reply:Originally Posted by little JeepThe U.S. Post office will deliver this bracket for $10.50, but there is no telling how long it will take. I need to get my butt to the Post Office and actually ship this bad boy. After standing in line the other day just to get a quote on cost, I'm not real excited to go back and stand in line again
Reply:Originally Posted by DSWI used to dread the weekly trip to the US post office to ship when I worked retail for a small company that did internet sales, so I feel your pain. Didn't seem to matter when I went there was always a line. If there wasn't, I didn't have the right form filled out, or the didn't like the box or the way it was wrapped ( APO's and international stuff I'd figure I was good for at least 1/2 a day there back and forth in line), and there WAS a line by the time I was done at the counter. SO I feel your pain. I try real hard now to try and get what ever I can in one of their flat rate boxes. Seems to simpify things a small bit.
