I would like to get feedback on the Hobart spool guns for welding thin aluminum. ( 11- 14 ga. ) . What kind of results are you getting with the newer models. I worked as a welder for several years, but that was 20 yrs ago. How do the ones work now that are available? Since they are owned by Miller do they preform as well ?
Reply:If you're talking about the small spool guns for the small portable migs, I think the Hobarts the same as Miller's Spoolmate 3xxx and 100 series. They are light duty guns but should do fine for light gauge aluminum. The real question is how well will your power source weld thin aluminum with mig? 14 gauge is do-able, but as you approach 16 gauge and less, mig welding aluminum becomes very difficult without pulse.MM350P/Python/Q300MM175/Q300DialarcHFHTP MIG200PowCon300SMHypertherm380ThermalArc185Purox oaF350CrewCab4x4LoadNGo utilitybedBobcat250XMT304/Optima/SpoolmaticSuitcase12RC/Q300Suitcase8RC/Q400Passport/Q300Smith op |
