Almost everyone has a trailer they use to transport their welding equipment. Doesn't have to be factory made, homemade is also part of it! It does mot have to be pretty! Show them off!
Reply:You see, the problem with this is people on this forum are very perticular about the trailer/road going builds that are posted. So for those that are posting. It's probably better if it's not just pretty, but done safely. There are no problems. There are only solutions. It's your duty to determine the right one.Hobart Handler 210Airco 225 Amp MSM Stinger

Reply:Would you knowingly risk the lives of your family and friends when the risk could be prevented? Yes, there are people out there that risk the lives of others every day with their "it'll hold" mentality. and that can't be avoided. However, if they can be warned before hand, than It's best to do so. I want to be able to take my family on a drive on the safest roads I can. If that means saying "Hey, you F'ed that all up, go fix it before you kill someone" than I will, every day of the week. There are no problems. There are only solutions. Reply:starting to sound to me like someone has a guilty conscience. Like maybe you're pissed because you've put something on the road that you know deep down shouldn't be there. But probably is on a regular basis. Because you've done it, and you don't have anything to show otherwise, you're going to get upset at the people who actually show some concern for other people's safety when they bring it up. I've got my own trailer thread. I've even put my welds up for review. Had nothing to hide. I did my due diligence and used the proper tools for the job. without any complaints from anyone on here. No, I don't know everything. But I'm also not afraid to make myself heard when I know someone is doing something wrong. To hell if I hurt their feelings because of it. Reply:Hello 55_Chevy_6400, since you ask about towing set-ups, I've got one here that might be of some interest. Many years ago I was associated with a youth group that would tour the US during the summer. One summer they were out and blew up an engine on one of the busses. It was in Sacremento, a long ways from home base. After consideration of the available options, I opted to find a way to tow it home(in the long run it was more economical) and work on it locally. Here is a hitch that basically converted the bus into a trailer. The air brakes from the truck are plumbed into the bus and there is a light bar on the back of the bus for turnsignals/brake lights. Thought some of you might enjoy this set-up. Best regards, Allan Attached ImagesLast edited by aevald; 10-06-2011 at 01:27 PM.aevald

Reply:That bus hitch is slick. Lots of pro towers fab their own gear. Some people might say that bus looks , but I think it looks very cool! Sometimes the ugly stuff is the prettiest!

Reply:Hello farmall, even though the hitch was a lot of work, in design, building, and installation, it saved thousands of dollars over a towing bill for the distance that we were looking at. The bus was an Eagle, they use a torsion bar front suspension and are rather unique in that design, that was an additional challenge in making a safe attachment considering that the vehicle weight was close to #40,000. Another point was the weight of the hitch assembly itself, it was built in 7 separate pieces that bolted together, had to be light enough that two men could handle the various parts and assemble it onto the bus before hooking up to the tow semi. One of the more amazing things about the whole project was the lack of interest by the California state DOT, they didn't even give the whole set-up a second look when we rolled through the scales with it. I was fortunate enough when this issue came up that I had another identical bus to use for measurements at my home 20 so that I wasn't completely working in the blind. Best regards, Allanaevald
Reply:Hello 1955_Chevy_6400, glad that you found an interest in this particular tow set-up. No, it certainly wasn't pretty, didn't bother to paint it, hoped that I would never need to use it again...... and I never did, fortunately. Best regards, Allanaevald
Reply:Allen your setup is alot like the Tru-hitch towing setup.      Probably the best idea i have seen to tow a coach for any long distances.Vantage 500's LN-25's, VI-400's, cobramatics, Miller migs, synch 350 LX, Powcon inverters, XMT's, 250 Ton Acurrpress 12' brake, 1/4" 10' Atlantic shear,Koikie plasma table W/ esab plasmas. marvel & hyd-mech saws, pirrana & metal muncher punches.
Reply:Hello Dualie, I was told the same thing by another person on another forum a while back. I hadn't seen that one til I Googled it, definitely some similarities, however the torsion bar system on the Eagle buses presents a slightly different hook-up challenge. It did tow very well and posed no problems or issues on the way back up north to Washington. Best regards, Allanaevald

Reply:Hello 1955_Chevy_6400, the tow system and the bus along with all of the other equipment of that time are long gone. The change in the economy, changes in interest and other factors caused the demise of this particular youth endeavor. If you are indeed interested I can possibly dig up more photos, sketches, and information so that you could pursue a system of your own. Best regards, Allanaevald
Reply:You sold it?
Reply:Yes, it went bye bye with all of the buses and other equipment that was used by the group. Allanaevald
