It took me and two other guys 5 weeks to do this one.Lots of fun but way under bid. It turned out very well considering none of us had ever done anything like it before. All was made from 1'' rebar two inch angle and 1/4 x4''x4'' mesh. Attached Images
Reply:Very nice look.  ummmmm did an engineer design and stamp that? I get a cold shiver looking at whats behind it..... Like when the pros here look at some of the trailers and compressors being welded hereLike the look but !
Reply:Very nice! Any closeups of the squares?"Where's Stick man????????" - 7A749"SHHHHHH!! I sent him over to snag that MIC-4 while tbone wasn't looking!" - duaneb55"I have bought a few of Tbone's things unlike Stick-Man who helps himself" - TozziWelding"Stick-man"

Reply:round here, a retaining wall of that size has to be approved, inspected, and stamped throughout all parts of the process. My biggest concern is the corrosion that is going to happen. there is nothing preventing that metal from rusting, and there is not way to make sure it doesn't now either, the rocks prevent anything from being put on the metal from the back. so nothing that can be done now but wait for it to rust. she's pretty now, but how long is she going to last? There are no problems. There are only solutions. It's your duty to determine the right one.Hobart Handler 210Airco 225 Amp MSM Stinger
Reply:I'm guessing those nuts we see are attached to bolts that go back into the hill to tie that wall back. At least I hope thats the case. I also hope they have geo fabric behind the stone to keep the dirt from washing thru, because holding back hydrostatic pressure shouldn't be a problem. Looks great now, but I wonder how pleased the home owner will be when that rust starts to bleed all over the stone... Definatly not a well thought out long term solution to the problem. This looks like one of those "designer" ideas Architects come up with who have never worked in the field or actually had feed back from the project over time. I had a few go arounds with these kind of guys both in the field, and when I was taking Architecture in college. Lot's of "pretty" and very little reality..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Government programs, once launched, never disappear. Actually, a government bureau is the nearest thing to eternal life we'll ever see on this earth! Ronald Reagan
Reply:Looks nice, and I think the "patina" will look OK too, as long as no one tries to paint it.The only rust concerns I have are the bottom angle iron and the mesh
Reply:The customer was looking for the natural patina (rust). As far as an engineer stamp, no.No permit required for retaining walls less than 60''. This one is 56".Geotek fabric behind the wall, 2 1/2 x 3  x 3/16 wall posts every two feet behind the wall 24'' in concrete,1" all thread from the front of the wall through the posts that are set in back.3/8 plate with the 1'' all thread going throught it.The wall is set on a 4'' slab. The bottom angle is set 1/4'' above the slab, we set peices of steel in the concrete during the pour. All 1/4 inch above the slabs surface for water drainage. It also gave us something to weld the angle to.I dont think we will need to worry about the corosion for a long time the wall is in Arizona.
Reply:That looks very good, but I think that house is going to have flooding problems in the future.Lincoln pro mig 180Lincoln Square Wave Tig 300/wp 20/home built water cooler Victor, Purox, Harris, O/A welding/cutting setupsVintage Craftsman drill pressVintage Craftsman/Atlas 12"x 36'' lathe7''x 12'' w/c band saw Everlast 140 st

Reply:Looks good.Do you call them a Gabian Wall there?I like when they use rocks with flatter faces and while filling, hand stack the ones agaist the mesh flat.Used quite a bit over here.  Sometimes just for looks.
