Buddy had some welding done

A guy I Jeep with posted these pics today. What do you think?"I went to ******* for these welds. What u think of them? They failed to tell me the welder was broken, did zero prep work, took my $260 and let me walk away."

Reply:Id take it (on a trailer) to a real welding shop and get a written estimate of what it'll cost to remove that mess and do it right...Then take the estimate to the first place, and demand your money back plus the extra it'll cost to have it done right... If they refuse, call a lawyer. Reply:Looks like a gas-less mig weld to me. Has he wire brushed those before taking the pictures? If not, it looks like it was welded over rust, which is now coming back through the black spray paint they put on..

Reply:I could have pooped on those gussets and had a better chance of them holding. That is god awful. IMO, your buddy should go to the shop and ask for his money back. That guy should have his a$$ kicked for having the gumption to call himself an "expert welder" and do a job like that.Insanity: doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.

Reply:I had a guy with a mismeasured roll bar on his jeep stop by. I literally broke the roll bar from the mounts with my bare hands.  I recut the bar and welded it correctly. It was unbelievable for a safety item. Like others said, some automotive shops try to be an expert at everything.

Reply:You need to do 2 things,First, you need to post the name of the shop here for everyone to see, he charged you good money and bills himself as and "expert welder" so he should be given full credit and advertisement benefits here, anbody who would let that out should be made public.  Second, Take your rig/ picures or both down to your motor vehicle, you don't need a lawyer, show it to the license and inspections people and file a complaint. This may not be a structural change and I don't exactly agree with that, but this butcher will undoubtably weld on something for someone that will jeopardize public safety, would you want your wife or kids in a rig he welded on, or even on the street near or in traffic with a rig he welded on. Reply:Everyone makes a bad weld sometimes. But a good weldor will grind that crap out and fix it.I did my first 3 ft long dual sheild weld today. It was extermely critical! 1 3/4 plate to 3/8 tubing. There were two discontinuities so I ground the whole thing out and made my boss redo it so I knew it was right. There's no excuse for sending out crap, even if that means getting the stink eye from the boss.
