This is a piece off an old Singer sewing machine. It's a little screw clamp that clamps down on a shaft. I am not sure if it's cast steel or cast iron and there isn't a whole lot to grind on. I suppose I could take a grinder to the underside of the base if it was really needed. I started thinking about it though and was wondering if I'd just be better off brazing it. What do you guys think? If I do braze it what brazing rod should I use?  And if I weld it what method and filler should I use? It is on the clamping side right next to the screw so it will need decent tensile strength and resistance to some flexing and bending. Lincoln precision TIG 275Millermatic 140 MIG

Reply:That would work, I probably would use bronze since I have plenty of it on hand.

Reply:Thanks for the input guys. I'll post up finished pics. The machine is a 69-something bar sticher.Lincoln precision TIG 275Millermatic 140 MIG
Reply:Got some micro porosity on the surface. I think I got the front side a little hot while I was trying to get penetration all the way through. I did get just a little filler poking through the full back side of the crack though . I think it will do it's job just fine. A couple days ago a guy came to me with a bike frame with a broken braze. He walked away from my first quote. Called him today and told him I'd do it for half price since I was already doing another project. Came out pretty good. Pics came out kinda lousy. Oh well. Better than the repair coming out lousy hehe. Lincoln precision TIG 275Millermatic 140 MIG
