Transmission case. Cast aluminum 4043 or 5356

My friend has a transmission case with a small hair line crack. I know I can weld it, but question is should I use 4043 or 5356?Going to use a little map gas for preheat and clean the piss out of it first. Anything else recommended for 2 small crack repairs? Reply:The way I look at castings, is if it is cracked on the machined flange, use 5356 for strength. If it is cracked on the body and is thin and crusty and wants to spider crack, I use softer 4043.
