I have a weld test tommorow where im trying to get my 3G open root cert using 7018 for open root and 7018 fill n cap..the supervised is making me use a 4mm gap and 1.5 root face! I'm using a 2.5 7018 at 80 amps..I am getting plenty of penetration and I can control the keyhole! My only problem is restart! They are not consistent ....sometimes it will penetrate through and blend into the previous root run fine...then the next time I might not get enough penetration and it might be just under flush with the plate...inspected said this will fail me ..if the plate is 15 mm and part of the root is 14 then game over!Any way test day tommorow..I'd really hate to fail!So any tips on restarts? I'm grinding them down but still not consistent!Tips , advice...anythingThankS
Reply:Grind the start and stop area more if you can. Also, on your restarts wait a second longer to get the rod hot enough. Maybe on your restarts you are moving to fast to start and letting the puddle heat up enough.. Just a thought.. |
