I use a lot of tools, day in and day out, that I take for granted. Some of which cannot be purchased at your local store. So I figured that I would share two of them with you. These are pretty specific with beam and channel layout practices. For a 90 off of a flange line: Grab a piece of 1 1/4" pipe,a chunk of plate and glue the two together. In constructing these, i've found that if you butt the pipe against a flat wall and can place a big square next to it, the side of the plate will be much more accurate in the long-run.Measuring from the outside: Cut a funky 'J' and paste a rule to the side of it. Just about anything can be used to calibrate the thing-ma-bob. If you have bigger beam flanges, cut your 'J' thingie out of longer/wider plate.I hope these help someone, somewhere down the road. Reply:Good tools....I were still doing beam work I would definately make that first tool.  When I was doing structural, we had some web guages very similar to the one you show here.Again very handy tools.ECAVE Still learnin'Lincoln AC225Lincoln 135SPHF ChopsawVictor O/ANumerous other items
Reply:I wish you wouldn't use such Technical terms like thing-a-ma-bob & "J" thingie. Some of us might need simpler more understandable words that the average person can relate to.
