I hope somebody can help me out here. Im trying to weld up some cracks and holes in old body panels. The metal (22ga) is very good but all I seem to do is burn through when I try to weld it.Im using my MM 250 with .023 wire with 25/75 gas mix set at 25 psi. My gun is a Bernard T3 that I just put a new .023 liner in. The suggested settings are 16.5 volts and wire speed at 38 (low). Ive tried settings all over the board with no success. Cant experiment too much as I dont need any more holes than I already have to deal with. Thanks so much,Pat
Reply:Are you sure recommended settings are for C25 and not CO2? I would reduce the voltage. Miller Calculator says 0.030" wire/C25 should be about 15-16 volts. Covering holes doesn't need full fusionXMT304 (school)SP125+ (home)HF 4x6 BandsawGood judgement comes from experience and much of that comes from bad judgement.
Reply:You can also try to put a piece of copper on the back side of the weld to absorb some of the heat.Torchmate 2x2 CNC with Flashcut CNC controlsHypertherm Powermax45 Esab ET220i Razorweld 195 MigRazorweld 200ac/dc TigTormach 770, Tormach xstechRazorweld, Vipercut/Vipermig, SSC Foot Pedal Dealer

Reply:short quick welds. 1/2" stitches? back buttering may help too.I'd grab some scrap and practice to see what you can get away with with the metal on hand. might help to figure out the best options for the real thing. There are no problems. The chart inside my machine says "Mild Steel"ER70S-675%Ar/25%CO220 cfhI am using ER70S-6 wire at .023, and I'm using 75/25 mix. I have the voltage set as low as 14 but it just pops a lot and still burns through. Just trying to figure out if it's the machine or me.
Reply:Originally Posted by shovelonCan you lower your voltage below 14? Do it if you can, and then adjust your wire speed. The setup chart is ballpark only. Dirty/rusty steel wants to burn hotter. Now I know you have the Er70-s6 loaded in, but for fenders and body panels I use Esab/Allstate Easygrind wire. In fact I use the .030 diameter in my Linclon SP175, and it flows like butter. If it does want to burn through, I stitch weld it. I get a lot of old antique patio furniture with rust holes that need to be filled. The way to do it is stitch weld with easygrind wire.
Reply:Gonna have to try that easy grind cause doing this with my TB and 12RC with .035 running 75/25 @ 14V 120 IPM feed sucks ...Zot....Zot ...ZotBut it's coming out perfect and the HAZ is just about 1/2 " full pen doing butt welds and plug welds mostly Biggest problem is i never intended to do this type of welding with this set up and the Q 300 gun is Way to big ..i ordered the smaller type tip and nozzle but they won't get here until monday Neither LWS has easy grind wire ..i would have to order itBacked my CATMA over your CARMA oops clusmy me What would SATAN do ??
