I recently picked up a sync 180 and a 125 CF argon bottle. Now, its been almost a decade since I last picked up a tig torch, and those machines belonged to the welding school. So, I never had to worry about the argon. Well, I must say, Wow... that argon goes quick!Been working on my outside corners because I have always sucked at them. looking better, but still having alot of trouble getting them started - always dip the tungsten for some reason, but I sharpened the tungsten and started a new coupon with some strange results! took a minute to figure it out...check it out! Reply:yep!   been there too many times.   just like trying to plasma with a bad ground.   Daye

Reply:Suggest buying argon in larger cylinders, and look into getting a gas lens TIG torch so you can cut your flow rate in half.
Reply:I'm shocked that you tried to weld out the whole joint, and that your tungsten didn't completly disappear in the first inch with no gas.Have we all gone mad?
Reply:On hindsight, I should have bought a larger cylinder...but you know what they say about hindsight. I like the gas lens idea! But i will wait until I have my beads under control again so I don't mess up a lensYeah, I did try to weld the whole joint...I learned to tig at a school where I never had to worry about the gas as they used very large tanks. Since this was the first tank of argon I have ever bought myself, this is the first time I have ever experienced loss of argon. so, it took me an inch or so to figure out why the metal was oxidizing so badly. surprisingly, my tungsten was fine. Also, I got my welder broken and rebuilt it, so I was thinking it might be malfunctioning again. Now I know thought!
Reply:Buy the gas lens. I bought my tig with a 40 cu ft bottle (it was with the welder) and it was "always empty". The gas lens setup made a meaningful difference in welding time per bottle. And I haven't had any issues with destroying any of the components. Based on my experience, you'll quickly save the cost of the gas lens and cups in gas.KevinHobart Handler 210Tweco Fabricator 181iLincoln Squarewave Tig 175

Reply:Hmmm....sounds reasonable. I generally only weld stainless and aluminum, so splatters should not be a big deal. I just heard somewhere that gas lenses are really fragile and recommendations on a lens?
Reply:Find out what torch you have and check the manual for the listing for the gas lens (you'll need one for each size tungsten you use) and the nozzles/cups to go with it. Your local welding supply should be able to fix you up or I'm sure you can mail order the stuff you need as well.KevinHobart Handler 210Tweco Fabricator 181iLincoln Squarewave Tig 175
