I'm going to be testing to buy a Lincoln 255C next Saturday. I have a small mig, a TIG and a stick unit, so I have some welding background. I would appreciate any advice you could give me on testing it and what else to look for. Thanks
Reply:Visual inspection, check the condition of the feed mechanism and gun. Run a few beads with it to ensure it works properly and feeds smoothly. If you are unsure how to set it, have the owner demostrate. If it welds well for one person, another person can get the same result. We have a bunch of 255Cs, they are good machines and survive years of student use well. Consumables like tips, nozzles, diffusers and gun liners are cheap. We use Radnor (Airgas brand) with no problems. Tweco #4 gun equivalents fit if you need another gun.Manuals can be downloaded from the Lincoln site.
