Chinese Welder Repair - Plasma Cutter Too

If the Chinese stuff is as bad as some think it is, there has to be a real cottage industry opportunity out there for folks to repair them.  I know of a couple sources and here is  is another I spotted on Ebay.http://cgi.ebay.com/40-50A-plasma-Cu...#ht_500wt_1156The imported stuff seem to be pretty much identical design for a given unit/type so it shouldn't be rocket science.  My own opinion is once you get the bugs worked out from them after you buy, they serve the purpose for the hobby type guy.  Steve

Reply:I've seen webpages dedicated to making HF tools actually work.  Seems to be a full time job.  With the Chinese welders, some now have longer warranties.  You basically send it in and get a new one.Its tough enough getting consumables for these welders, let alone actual parts for repair.  Some of these companies seem to completely re-vamp their entire line ever 2 years (switch manufacturer?)  Good luck finding any parts for older welders.Con Fuse!Miller Dynasty 350Millermatic 350P-Spoolmatic 30AMiller Multimatic 200Hypertherm PowerMax 1000G3Miller Maxstar 200DX

Reply:H'mm, $200 bucks to get a plasma cutter repaired, including shipping with 1/3 year warranty on parts and labor.  Most likely failed part will be a circuit board.  Compare that to my Hobart/Miller Champion 10k with a bad circuit board.  LWS wants $200 labor and $400 in parts to replace same with 90 day warranty.  The Champ is out of warranty but only has 70 hours on the clock.  The board itself is made offshore.
