Hello all, I have noticed various units like this on the forum. Been a while since I've posted much. This is a project that I have been working on off and on for close to 9 months. As with most things that I have built, I have certainly found items that could use some improving and modification. After completion of this, operating it, and then seeing some other similar machines I have come to the conclusion that I will likely be building another one. The next one will incorporate some fairly extensive design changes. As to this version: It does function fairly well and is capable of doing quite a few different things that I wasn't able to do before. The biggest plus was the cost, it's built from items that I had been hording over the years and finally was able to put to use. I have done some of the simpler machining and have some additional dies coming for it that the machine shop will be helping out with, mainly dies for rolling pipe: 1/2",3/4", 1", 1 1/4", 1 1/2", and some additional dies for rolling square tubing of various sizes, maybe even some angle iron die sets. The roll power is provided by a gear reducer with additional gearing via sprocket and chain, the crimp adjustment is done via an air over hydraulic porta-power system. I've included just a couple of examples of quickly rolled items. Hope you folks enjoy this. Best regards, AllanAlmost forgot, it doesn't have any guarding on it yet but that will be included before it every gets put to general use. I have also included a foot switch for safety, the directional switch can be set to control direction of roll rotation and then the rolls will work with depression of the foot switch. Reply:Looks real nice, sturdy too.Leo
Reply:Very nice. I wonder if the "improvement" you speak of for the next one is the upgrade to double shear for the two bottom rollers? Just curious as I could see how there could be some deflection possibly with heavier materials.Looks nice though!http://jackalopefab.com/MM210Synchrowave 200DXMiller XMT350 w/60series feederMiller Bobcat 250 with SGA 100 and spoolgunHTP PlasmaFull Machine shop with everything
Reply:that is a friggin heavy duty piece for sure!!question......the two pieces on the left (complete circle and almost complete circle) how did you get them off of the top roll? did you have to take the roller out of the bender?miller... 225g, s32p, 250x, 304, 12vs, MSW41     victor o/a thermal dynamics cutmaster 50 lenco panel spotter        hobart hf-boxG3 Farms.....raising cattle, hay, kids and hell, ...oh yeah I'm a fire sprinkler contractor by trade.
Reply:Hello G3 Farms, yes, the top roller does have to be removed to take any piece out of it that has a gap less than the diameter of the top roller and fortunately that is a relatively simple task to accomplish. One bolt and the pin slides out opening up the top for part removal. Regards, AllanLast edited by aevald; 12-06-2011 at 05:56 PM.aevald
Reply:Hello jackalope, actually, if I were going to roll some "really heavy stuff" I would increase the size of the shafts and bearings, which is a possibility. My next design plan calls for all three rolls to be open for ease of loading/unloading, more so like the commercial units that are available. This time around though, I went with the items that I had since this was a relatively low budget build. Regards, Allanaevald
Reply:Allen, really good use of saved parts.  Looks like it has a lot of power to do some pretty heavy stuff!  Nice job!! Bob
Reply:Thanks Bob, it was a lot of fun and at times frustrating. Best regards, Allanaevald
Reply:Very nice. I always like looking at what you have to offer. Thanks for posting.Travis
