I'm sure this has been covered before, but I couldn't find what I was looking for in a search.  I'm getting to the end of a 33lb spool of .045" solid wire in a Lincoln 255, and looking to replace it with a spool of .035" wire.  Here's my question.  Any reason to avoid the generic no name brands of MIG wire on eBay, or will they be fine for the home hobbyist?  I've found 30-33lb spools of .035 for around $50 shipped, which should last me for quite some time.  Here's a link:http://www.ebay.com/itm/30-lb-Roll-E...item20d01df5b1Any reason to avoid this wire?
Reply:I know I read the Lincoln super arc is a preferred wire. I think it is like anything else, you get what you pay for. that sure is cheap. Maybe see if the guy sells 2 pound spools and try one.  It may help to post what type of material and work you want to use it on.
Reply:DO IT!!That's HTP wire... I have a ton of it, including one 30 pounder of .030, and it runs great, I really like it. Here's a comparison I did of their wire, against Hobart and Lincoln wire...[ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4sPih1LAv6c[/ame]Not to criticize myself, but yes, overall I HIGHLY recommend avoiding no-name consumables... I've heard horror stories of cheap FCAW wire and stick electrodes, and my old high school once got a ton of generic mig wire... It came with surface rust, ran like crap and wouldn't feed right... That being said, IMHO anyone who considers HTP a "no name brand" has probably never used their products before... But, that's enough infomercial for one night [Account Abandoned 8/8/16 Please Do Not Attempt Contact Or Expect A Reply]. See you on YouTube! -ChuckE2009
Reply:Because of your video, I ordered their .023+.030 combo pack!

Reply:I our company we weld with HTW 50 (chinese but with many certifications) wire. Minimal splatter, feeds normaly, burns good and it's cheap to buy. I say buy it, try it and then decide...

Reply:The 10# spools are about half the price as lincoln. I think I will try it too!
Reply:I just picked up a 10# of .030 and a 10# of .035 Hobart from TSC because I had a 10% of coupon.  I wish I had seen the review and this thread first.  I considered the HTP from ebay but wasn't sure about the chinese stuff.  Next time I'll know.

Reply:Well, I went ahead and ordered a spool, so it should be here in a few days.  Not sure I will ever use up 30lbs of wire, but I'm definitely going to try!!
