Hey guys! So, Ive had some recent issues with a rosebud torch... I bought a rosebud tip new, "Hobart" brand and "Made in China" for some cast iron welding I did a while back... It fit the "Victor" torch I was using at the time.Anyway, it has some issues. It doesnt seem to run right, its very hard to keep lit, and its gotten worse. I tried to use it a few days ago and couldnt... There'd just be a loud "BANG" and it'd go out... Sometimes theres a shrill whistle and then it goes out... The torch tip gets very hot.So, I decided to stop using it after trying it a couple times, for obvious reasons. Its far from my first time using an O/A torch with a rosebud, but maybe I'm just doing something wrong? Im convinced this tip is screwed up, which sucks because I only used it a couple times before it started having issues. Any thoughts? Reply:if the tip is not defective, it sounds like not enough acetylene pressure (min 10 psi) or the draw off rate is too high for the size cylinder you are connected to. (remember the 1/7th rule). you may have to manifold two acet cylinders together to get a high enough draw rate or get a smaller rosebud.
Reply:LOL bud, Go below a neutral flame and try it again bud. It's easy to go overboard with lighting those suckers up, but you'll get used to it. Almost like with a brazing tip where you get a snap and then it goes out. The whistling sound is coming from the flame being prematurely lit in the torch head itself and blowing out heat like a tea kettle. It's a good way to make bosses run away when they know your pissed off too  Sometimes it's just caused by loose fittings tho, usually at the mixer. Expansion contraction issues, it will light up fine and 30 seconds later turn into a machine gun. Starts running lean and sucking in air at the mixer and the flame works its way back and then BOOM! KABLOOWIE! BOOM BOOM BOOM! And when your done laughing and scareing everyone you could let it cool and tighten everything up!I hate being bi-polar it's awsomeMy Heroes Have Always Been Cowboys
Reply:What size rosebud at what regulator pressure and what size bottle are you using?  As dbl612 said draw off could be a factor all depending upon the rosebud size, pressure and bottle size.
Reply:LanseUntil you dial-in your bottle size and settings don't hesitate to quench the torch, all the way to the collar, in your 'safety bucket' of water.Opus
Reply:The shrill whistle is the gases burning inside the torch.  Let it go long enough and it'll melt the tip tube.  Note 19:36 into the video.[ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TxRMTxf8W9Q&feature=player_embedded&list=P  L47639173BE8AF3F8[/ame]MM200 w/Spoolmatic 1Syncrowave 180SDBobcat 225G Plus - LP/NGMUTT Suitcase WirefeederWC-1S/Spoolmatic 1HF-251D-1PakMaster 100XL '68 Red Face Code #6633 projectStar Jet 21-110Save Second Base!
Reply:I've had the same problem, usually when trying to keep too small a flame. With a rosebud, you gotta let the big dog eat.Ian TannerKawasaki KX450 and many other fine tools
Reply:What pressures are you trying to run it at?
Reply:Consider switching to propane for fuel. Larger heads are available and fewer backfire issues. At least for me anyway. Dan

Reply:Volume, volume, volume, crank the regulators up and open the torch valves wide, these things like to breathe.Disclaimer; "I am just an a$$hole welder, don't take it personally ."
Reply:I used to have the same problem till I got a little handy pocket card for Victor tips with the pressure and withdrawl rates for various sizes of tips.I'll look tonight if I get home early enough, then scan it if I find it.
Reply:hey lanse i'm getting a torch and tanks what size are ur tanks
Reply:for my big rose bud on a 300 series handle i use a 300-330 cf tank for my small one on my 100 series handle(victor)  i use a 150 CF acetylene tankas tozzi said they like to breath especially the big onescheck your o Rings and for proper seal at the handle and the proper psi from the regulatorsLast edited by WeldorWes; 07-16-2013 at 08:46 AM.Miller Xmt 350Lincoln Ln-25Ahp 200xSmith Gas Mixer AR/HTig is my Kung FuThrowing down dimes and weaving aboutInstagram http://instagram.com/[email protected]
