I am looking to switch over to my sa 200 and was wondering if there is a portable band saw that can run on DC ? I have a deWalt right now but I was told that variable speed porta bans can't run on DC which makes sense.... Just wish I would have thought about it sooner. Thanks.
Reply:If you are running the one wire alternator you have enough juice to run a power inverter.Just one option - but an easy one [ame]http://www.amazon.com/Whistler-Pro-2500W-Watt-Power-Inverter/dp/B003R7LQDI[/ame]2500 watt inverter with a 5000 watt surge for about $190Dave J.Last edited by MinnesotaDave; 07-16-2013 at 11:16 PM.Dave J.Beware of false knowledge; it is more dangerous than ignorance. ~George Bernard Shaw~ Syncro 350Invertec v250-sThermal Arc 161 and 300MM210DialarcTried being normal once, didn't take....I think it was a Tuesday.
Reply:To your original question, this one is listed as AC/DC and has a switch for it.http://www.homedepot.com/p/DEWALT-De...328K/203164050Dave J.Dave J.Beware of false knowledge; it is more dangerous than ignorance. ~George Bernard Shaw~ Syncro 350Invertec v250-sThermal Arc 161 and 300MM210DialarcTried being normal once, didn't take....I think it was a Tuesday.
Reply:A non variable one with a brushed 'universal' motor would run on DC.Welding/Fab Pics: www.UtahWeld.com

Reply:Some guys on a job cooked a couple of v/s drills by plugging them into an old Lincoln welder with the dc 110v outlet. You can tell right away, they start to smell funny real quick. Glad I found this out before I cooked a tool on my sa200.Milwaukee makes several bandsaw models they indicate are ac/dc."The reason we are here is that we are not all there"SA 200Idealarc TM 300 300MM 200MM 25130a SpoolgunPrecision Tig 375Invertec V350 ProSC-32 CS 12 Wire FeederOxweld/Purox O/AArcAirHypertherm Powermax 85LN25
