Reply:Vernon, all the stuff you've posted looks excellent but I noticed that the steel is all real thick stock. What equipment are you using to cut and shape the pieces. Must be big, whatever you're using.
Reply:Nice job! Got some leverage on that baby...(Retired) Professional firefighter, amateur everything else I try to do...Oh yeah: Go Big Red! (You know: one of the 12 members of the Big 10 cuz we left the 10 members of the Big 12...)

Reply:ive bent plenty of 1" mild steel on my hossfeld with no sweat, you can probably go bigger than 7/8".looks good, but was it really worth all the man hours rather than buy it?how long did it take? i wasnt sure you hadn't bought one and were trying to pass it off until i noticed the ring for making repeatable bends was missing, its useful and you may consider making one. those benders are worth their weight in gold

Reply:2 days then it was worth doing it yourself. i paid 750 for mine, but it came with a collection of dies.what did you make the pins out of?

Reply:Hi VERNON sorry for opening an old thread but I'm looking to build a bender just like yours as the postage to Ireland on a hossfeld bender and some dies would cost more than the bender itself. So would you mind posting some dimensions of yours please if its not too much trouble, I to would be willing to buy the 2 dies you bought and perhaps a couple of pins.Happy new year to all from this side of the pond.murt.
Reply:Try looking here. I didn't open them but if they're what I think they are then they're a full CAD plan for the bender. http://www.kinzers.com/don/MachineTools/bender/Millermatic 252XMT 304'sDynasty 280DXHypertherm PowerMax 1250Miller Trailblazer 302 EFIOptima PulserXR feeder and XR Edge gun and more athttp://members.dslextreme.com/users/waynecook/index.htm
Reply:You're welcome. I've had them stored on my computer for years waiting for the time to build one. I knew they where out there just had to google them up. I can remember when they where first posted many years ago. Happy new year to you as well. Can't wait to see what the year will be like. I'm hoping for something better anyway. Reply:About twenty years ago I found a hosfield sitting in a field behind a tractor repair. I went in and asked the guy if he wanted to sell it. He said yes I want 50 dollars for it. So I drove out there with my pickup and it was sitting on a rotten pallet with about half a ton of dies and things that went with it. As soon as I got it home I ordered a book on it so that I could figure out how to run it. I have almost every die they sold with it and a bunch of homade ones also. The most used part is a hardened pin that sticks up above the bender with an offset flat on it. Mac
Reply:what a piece of luck, better to be born lucky than rich.are they as good as the demo vids say.
Reply:I used one at my last employers for 8 years and really miss it sometimes. I've got a the small cheap Harbor Freight copy and push it to the limits all the time. I've overhauled and beefed it up till I can do a lot but I still miss the Hossfield. My problem is room for it. It takes a lot of room around a Hossfield to get the full use out of it. I've not got any place to permanently mount it that has that kind of room.Millermatic 252XMT 304'sDynasty 280DXHypertherm PowerMax 1250Miller Trailblazer 302 EFIOptima PulserXR feeder and XR Edge gun and more athttp://members.dslextreme.com/users/waynecook/index.htm

Reply:Wow. Nice setup there. Yeah part of the problem with the manual unit is that you've got to have it mounted real solid. Then you have to have room for the material (sometimes you're bending 20' pieces) and the handle to swing. Hydraulic eliminates the need for the solid mount. Still not got room for it at the moment but some day maybe.Millermatic 252XMT 304'sDynasty 280DXHypertherm PowerMax 1250Miller Trailblazer 302 EFIOptima PulserXR feeder and XR Edge gun and more athttp://members.dslextreme.com/users/waynecook/index.htm

Reply:Good thread, good job, good tips. Thanks guys.Working on cars and bikes is my hobby, learning to weld the pieces together is my quest.Originally Posted by monkersThanks for posting that link to the plans Irish, maybe ill get enough ambition to build one some day |
