I have a miller matic 10a I want to use on a miller bobcat 225 NT cc/cv ac/dc 8500 watt generator welder or on a lincoln ranger 250 generator welder. Can it be done.
Reply:Hello Street Rodder, I believe that you can readily use that particular feeder for your proposed application. Where you may run into a challenge is in providing the 110V to operate this feeder. I don't believe that your engine drive has enough 110V amperage available to properly supply the feeder directly through the 14-pin connector. You will likely need to use the pigtail adapter that Miller has available for some of their older shop power sources that converts the 14 pin to a 2-blade contactor plug and a 3-blade power plug. You would then connect the two blade contactor to the contactor plug-in on your feeder and leave the 3-prong plug disconnected. Then you would use the 110V output on the engine drive to supply the 110V connection recepticle on the feeder with power. I hope this makes sense. Likely others will chime with more technically correct descriptions. It is doable however. Good luck and best regards, Allanaevald
Reply:No 14-pin on the Bobcat unless you put a full function one on the machine as I did to mine but any Miller 14-pin with 115VAC would be able to power the MM10A.To use it off the Bobcat just plug it into either 115VAC outlet and hook it up to the weld output. Keep in mind the gun will be hot all the time (again unless you add a contactor to your Bobcat as I did) so be careful where you lay the gun when not welding.Don't worry about turning down the Fine Current Control as you'll still have more than enough voltage and amperage to run the MM10A off the auxiliary power. You just won't have the full 8.5K auxiliary output capability with the FCC at minimum.MM200 w/Spoolmatic 1Syncrowave 180SDBobcat 225G Plus - LP/NGMUTT Suitcase WirefeederWC-1S/Spoolmatic 1HF-251D-1PakMaster 100XL '68 Red Face Code #6633 projectStar Jet 21-110Save Second Base!
Reply:Hello Duane, glad you caught the lack of the 14-pin and contactor in this application, I was apparently spacing-off somewhere and thinking of "other" Miller engine drives. Best regards, Allanaevald
Reply:I do it all the time especially since outfitting MY Bobcat with a 14-pin and contactor. MM200 w/Spoolmatic 1Syncrowave 180SDBobcat 225G Plus - LP/NGMUTT Suitcase WirefeederWC-1S/Spoolmatic 1HF-251D-1PakMaster 100XL '68 Red Face Code #6633 projectStar Jet 21-110Save Second Base!

Reply:the 10a only has the 14 prong plug and the welder lead hook up how do I get 110 power
Reply:Street Rodder, look on the back panel of the feeder unit itself, it should have two plugs. One is a 2-prong and the other is a 3-prong. The 3-prong provides the 110 power to operate the drive motor and the gas solenoid. the 2 prong provides for contactor closure to power sources with an internal contactor. Find a plug that will plug into the 3-prong receptical and plug the other end into 110V power, either the AC from your portable welder or a wall outlet. The wire will be hot all the time as Duane mentioned, but you will be able to use the feeder with your Bobcat set to CV. Good luck and best regards, Allanaevald |
