I'm getting to the point where I have so much different types of filler that I have run out of space to store it without having tubes propped against every wall in my shop......You guys know of a tig filler cabinet made just for storing this stuff...   Miller Dynasty 350Twenty Six HammersThree Crow BarsBig Rock
Reply:Yeah, there's one floating around in your mind right now. We just half to let it out.   As long as you have multiple divided compartments, either horizontal or vertical, you are good to go.  Attached ImagesCity of L.A. Reply:yeah that looks great but I was thinking of a sealed cabinet even though your tubes are sealed......HmmmmmmmmmmI might copy your deal and scare up some sealed tubes......PVC with caps ?   Hmmmmmmm maybe put a top on it and make a rolling table......Last edited by B_C; 03-09-2011 at 10:31 AM.  Miller Dynasty 350Twenty Six HammersThree Crow BarsBig Rock
Reply:BC,I use the PVC tubes for storing filler. The only difference from the photo shown, is I cut my tubes 38" and glue both end caps.  Then I'll cut the tubes back 6" from the end.  I'll glue a straight union to the shorter piece. That way, when I remove the 6" cap, I'll have a few inches of filler sticking out the tube.  Much easier to remove filler and to see how much filler you've got.Just a suggestion.Syncro 250 DX Dynasty 200 DXMM 251 w/30A SG XMT 304 w/714 Feeder & Optima PulserHH187Dialarc 250 AC/DCHypertherm PM 1250Smith, Harris, Victor O/ASmith and Thermco Gas MixersAccess to a full fab shop with CNC Plasma, Water Jet, etc.
Reply:I use the same concept as Sundown, just with a male and female threaded coupling in place of the union.Mine are cut at 20 and 16, but I wish they were a 28 and 8, as the rods splay out a bit, so putting the cap back on takes two hands.Who is John Galt?
Reply:Since I cut my filler in half (so I can hold it better ) I was thinking of making them shorter and cutting the filler  when I take it from the box?  that way i can save space when finding a place to stack it.....  Miller Dynasty 350Twenty Six HammersThree Crow BarsBig Rock
Reply:Hey B_C,I also used PVC for my storage system & made a couple brackets for under my storage rack next to my TIG table. I had some rubber end caps from work I use to cover the ends. It really made it nice & out of the way.Denny Attached ImagesComplete Welding/Machine/Fab. Reply:It's not a cabinet but this is how I store mine.  Lower sections are 14" so I can run the filler rod down to 16" or so and still get it out of the tube.  Shorter sections get tacked together and go back in for next time.  To do it again I'd use some larger tubes to accommodate a full sleeve of SS or CS filler.  May still redo some.MM200 w/Spoolmatic 1Syncrowave 180SDBobcat 225G Plus - LP/NGMUTT Suitcase WirefeederWC-1S/Spoolmatic 1HF-251D-1PakMaster 100XL '68 Red Face Code #6633 projectStar Jet 21-110Save Second Base!
Reply:Yeah that's cool too........The more I think about it I like the idea of short tubes (Cut in half)  and store them in a cupboard fixed to the wall with other tig parts and crap....Maybe a spare PIZZA..........Last edited by B_C; 03-09-2011 at 10:07 PM.  Miller Dynasty 350Twenty Six HammersThree Crow BarsBig Rock
Reply:BC,If you go with the shorter tubes, or even the full length tubes in a box of some sort, install a golden rod in the bottom of the box. Will keep your filler nice and dry on those humid days. The golden rods are small (about 3/4" in dia) heating tubes, that were designed for reducing humidity in closets.  We used them a lot on boat closets and rod storage cabinets.  Use a lot in gun cabinets. You can check them out at Midway on the net.I keep my mig wire in an old four drawer filing cabinet.  Got one golden rod in the bottom of the cabinet and it keeps my wire rust free.  Also have golden rods installed in two of my mig machines.Syncro 250 DX Dynasty 200 DXMM 251 w/30A SG XMT 304 w/714 Feeder & Optima PulserHH187Dialarc 250 AC/DCHypertherm PM 1250Smith, Harris, Victor O/ASmith and Thermco Gas MixersAccess to a full fab shop with CNC Plasma, Water Jet, etc.

Reply:They'd probably generate just enough heat (about 20 watts) to melt the ice cream. Here on the east coast, near the water, we have a real problem with humidity.  I use quite a few of the "Golden Rods", in places like the cabinet where I store my woodworking tools (planes, chisels, router bits, etc).Syncro 250 DX Dynasty 200 DXMM 251 w/30A SG XMT 304 w/714 Feeder & Optima PulserHH187Dialarc 250 AC/DCHypertherm PM 1250Smith, Harris, Victor O/ASmith and Thermco Gas MixersAccess to a full fab shop with CNC Plasma, Water Jet, etc.
Reply:if ya need storage space without taking up wall space why not fab up some hangers and store your bulk up on the ceiling in pvc tubes kinda like a rod rack .have what ya use alot on the wall or wherever and the rest up outta the way350P 30A spool gun cut master 51  syncro 250 other stuff " take a dog off the street and make him prosper and he will not bite you sad the same cannot be said for man" i didnt use punctuation just to piss you off

Reply:I'm liking the sealed cabinet, cut  half length idea myself, with a clear window at the door maybe?... why not build it? mine just stand up against the wall for now too but overhead is always a great space for storage in a limited space shopwould there be any problem storing different rods in the same sealed chamber with other types of rods? like would any metals cause any kind of reaction to a different type of metal in storage in the same sealed chamber?Last edited by turbocad6; 03-10-2011 at 11:54 PM.miller 330a bp TIGmiller dynasty 200DX TIGmillermatic 185 MIGthermal dynamics cutmaster 101 plasma cuttersnap-on YA5550 plasma cutterhypertherm powermax 30 plasma cutterbaileigh CS225 cold sawetc....
Reply:another thought for something in the corner that you could put half lengths in something similar to this http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&sourc...PsRq4ap8zWDV3A but you could step it up with maybe three level tiers pyramid style.  with 2 0r 3 levels you could fit quite a bit of filler 350P 30A spool gun cut master 51  syncro 250 other stuff " take a dog off the street and make him prosper and he will not bite you sad the same cannot be said for man" i didnt use punctuation just to piss you off
