Helped a buddy re-stack his dodge truck last night.  This time he went with an 8"... kind of um.. big.I didn't get to weld as much of it as I would have liked, but that's OK.  Just a few pics no close ups though, it was late and I was dead tired.Small truck LOL: (Full cab long bed)Chop saw owned the old exhaust pretty nicely.:^Kind of a funny picture, because my buddy weighs 240 and the way the picture was taken he looks tiny compared to the stack LOLAnd that's my Friday night hahaJoeMiller 140 Autoset (2010)Miller Syncrowave 250 (1996)

Reply:My old work truck had stacks on it, easy way to catch stuff on fire in the bed.I can destroy a steel ball in a rubber room

Reply:just dumb. there is a dodge diesel like mine down the street from my shop and he has dual stacks in his bed that are, no joke, each 18" diameter. they damn near touch each other. the dumbest thing ever. how do these people not know they are laughed at by everyone except 14-18 year old WT white boys??
Reply:so unless its a race truck I don't understand the stacks. Does he have any mods or compound turbo kits for the truck? I built this truck's compound turbo kit and theres a reason for the stack....hahttp://www.dieselpowermag.com/tech/c...ine/index.htmlbut good job sometimes you just got to do what the customer wants.Miller Dynasty 200Millermatic 211Instagram?.... find me @ WELD_MEDIC
Reply:Just welded straight to the bed?  Anything built into the pipe to lose the vibration before it hits that weld?
Reply:You young dudes......I da no....I wouldn't drive around with that chimny in my bed, takes to much room, if he likes it, great, that's what counts........
Reply:I could see putting stacks on it for the look, but I wouldn't have gone more than 5 or 6" in diameter max.
Reply:IT,s the big,s thing that they can show too there small pee pee and not get arrested !! to be noticed

Reply:What a waste of a perfectly good truck.My name's not Jim....
Reply:But there is a lot of money to be made on vanity and stupid . Ya gotta learn to keep a straight face while you are raking in the 'stupid cash' being spent on 'stupid bling' for a truck the guy didn't need or doesn't use as a truck to begin with. For 75% of those 3/4 ton, 4x4 diesel trucks that get sold you can bet there is going to be $3,000.00 to $10,000.00 worth of add-ons or modifications spent within a year or three. You can laugh on the way to the bank.  Somebody is gonna get it, you know that.If a guy wants 4 new rims and 4 new swampers, you don't ask him if the truck is ever going to get close to a swamp, you sell-sell-sell and smile  as he is payin."The things that will destroy America are prosperity at any price, peace at any price, safety first instead of duty first, the love of soft living and the get rich quick theory of life." -Theodore Roosevelt
Reply:Gotta Dodge diesel with a turbo back strait pipe and love it. But stacks are gay. Now if it was a 379 Pete with a bowtie visor and louvers on the grill absolutely, the bigger the better. 'Nuff said. Attached ImagesLast edited by Pickupman; 12-31-2011 at 02:24 PM.Reason: add pic

Reply:Originally Posted by SundownIIIStill amazes me the extremes some people will go to to show off their stupidity.Personal Opinion but for me, Stacks are perfectly fine if they are sized correctly.  My Kenworth ran fine with dual 5" stacks (Wanted 6" for looks but that was on a semi) There isn't a pickup in in the world that would "Need" a single stack larger that 5" (Full out competition pulling truck) or dual stacks larger than 3-1/2" or 4" to have unrestricted flow while keeping up exhaust velocity.Wanna-be's that put stupid crap like that on their trucks are not considering the scavenging effect of the exhause.  HUGE chimneys like that just slow it down, and make big clouds of soot that float around the box of the truck. For my personal taste, stacks have to have FUNCTION as well as form.  If they are not well above the cab of the vehicle and discharge the exhaust well above the breathing zone of people, they are USELESS.Your buddy obviously may do as he wishes, but I don't know what is dumber, the size of the stack, or Welding it directly to the truck box.  Wow,Later,Jason

Reply:I have no knowledge about this kind of stuff, but does that serve _any_ purpose over a traditional exhaust other than to "look cool"? To me not only does it not look cool, but like many of you have pointed out, a) it wastes bed space, b) produces a fire hazard, and c) is probably really, really loud. This particular one doesn't even extend past the cab vertically, so I'm guessing that doesn't help the sound situation. I would hate to be sitting in the back seat of that truck...I'd probably hate sitting in the front, for that matter.

It looks like a tug boat.I wonder what he's going to do with all the water / snow that huge hole collects, not to mention leaves.

Reply:Strictly for demonstration, this is MY personal idea of what stacks should look like in relation to the size of the vehicle they are on and meet the criteria I mentioned before as to where they "Should" discharge.Your mileage may vary Attached ImagesLast edited by Black Wolf; 01-01-2012 at 11:07 AM.Later,Jason

On another note, all the chrome stacks Ive had on my trucks have NEVER been cut so the rain can get into the pipes. That guy will be washing soot off the pipes and truck every rain storm. Yes what w wast of bed space. Remember when carpenters worked out of station wagons, farmers and linesmen had trucks. Today everyone wants a truck to haul a loaf of bread, driving up the demand and costs for those of us that need, I mean, use them. Just my .02Learning one rod at a time
