here is my first attempt at aluminum. The machine is a Lincoln PT225. 2% red 3/32, pulse set at auto. 1/8 in aluminum .The aluminum was cleaned with a stainlees steel wire brush. Looks like I could have cleaned a little more. Let me have it.Thanks Crankfirst passsecond pass back side. Here is a pic tungsten. One on the left is the one used on the second pass.Lincoln PT225Lincoln Tombstone ac/dc 225Hobart HH180Miller ThunderboltPlasma Victor O/A
Reply:Did you mean that you had the AC balance set to auto? I don't think that machine has an automatic setting for the pulse. Was the pulse on or off. If on, what frequency?
Reply:sorry balance was on auto, not sure on pulse..Lincoln PT225Lincoln Tombstone ac/dc 225Hobart HH180Miller ThunderboltPlasma Victor O/A
Reply:looks like you gotta practice adding the filler a bit, getting the consistant accuracy. also seems that you've got excessive amperage, steady your travel speed a bit and get comfortable
Reply:Thanks Speedy. I knew i needed practice on adding filler a little more evenly. You really have to pile the stuff in there... Thanks for the info on the heat.. That is what I was looking for...CrankLincoln PT225Lincoln Tombstone ac/dc 225Hobart HH180Miller ThunderboltPlasma Victor O/A
Reply:a good way i learnt to tighten up my bead profile with aluminium was on 10mm plate using a cross hatch like technique, im not sure on the set you are using ive never used one myself ive only ever had experience using miller equipment. But buy some plate 100x200mm and build up your weld along width for the full length and then along the lenght all the way down along the width, its a simple yet effective way to control and experiment your amperage and your filler, ideally i use a 1/8 gap for every dip for an even profile i hope this helps
Reply:Pretty sure your machine is a transformer machine and you might have better results with AC using a pure tungsten.......I know the new inverter machines don't recommend using pure (green) tungsten but your transformer machine works pretty good with pure..... Reply:For your first time I say yes to this..Gotta slow down a bit and get used to a pedal..Try some red end..I have great success with it in a transformer machine.....zap!I am not completely insane..Some parts are missing Professional Driver on a closed course....Do not attempt.Just because I'm a dumbass don't mean that you can be too.So DON'T try any of this **** l do at home.
