sp175t or migpak180??

newbie here,the sp175t requires gas, the migpak 180 does not.which lincoln welder would you guys recommend here?which one is better? would the sp175t be better since it needs gas to weld.thanks in advance.

Reply:No I did not ask this question, my previous question was different. This question is simply asking which of the two is better.
Reply:My understanding is the newer 180 amp unit contains Lincoln's Diamond Core choke design. Assuming this is true I'd go with the 180 over the 175. I use to own a Lincoln SP 175 Plus, and currently own a Lincoln PowerMIG 180C. The Diamond Core choke design in the 180C produces a cleaner arc and better weld puddle wet out then the choke design that was used in the SP 175 Plus.ESAB Migmaster 250 Hobart Ironman 230Multimatic 215TWECO Fabricator 181i & 211iHH125EZ - nice little fluxcore only unitMaxstar 150 STH - very nice

Reply:I guess your question maybe different but the answer is the same. Either machine will weld with gas or no gas. The Mig Pak 180 does not have the diamond core tech so I think there performance would be similar.

Reply:Well, after researching this forum i have a better understanding of how these machines can be set up to weld on different metals and thickness.also brand x has a good point in dialing in the right arc settings for thinner steel.good info herethanks guys.

Reply:Abraham,A third option to consider over both of the Lincoln units you are struggling to decide between, would be a Hobart Handler 187. The Handler 187 is a very good solid wire and self shielded fluxcore wire unit on mild steel. One reason I'd go with the Handler 187 over the two Lincoln units you are considering, is the fact that the Handler 187 offers 7 voltage tap selections; whereas, the Lincoln units offer 5.ESAB Migmaster 250 Hobart Ironman 230Multimatic 215TWECO Fabricator 181i & 211iHH125EZ - nice little fluxcore only unitMaxstar 150 STH - very nice
