Just getting involved with GTA welding and I'm looking for a source for consumables. I've seen some of these kits that have cups, collets and tungsten in a little organizer box. Are any of these kits of decent quality or is it usually junk? I'm going to be running a CK WP20 water cooled torch on a Syncro 250. It appears that there is some significant savings on consumables in the kit form but I don't want to make my learning more difficult by using garbage. Also, any online sites that are better than others for this stuff? I've used Cyberweld a few times for SMAW items and they seem ok but I'm always keeping my eyes open for deals on quality gear. Thanks in advance for the help.E
Reply:Once you have run the machine for a bit you will develop prefered set ups and will not use everything in those little kits. The parts you will use are all really cheap if you order them individually. I get tung from Diamond Grind and Aglevtech on the internet and collets, holders and cups from IOC and Cyberweld. BR welding also has all of this, but the current thread makes me a little less likely to place an order till it is resolved. You alos might want to consider a couple of gas lens set ups if you have a little extra cash, they work great in certain circumstances.BobI'm spending my Kids inheritance, I dont like him that much anyway!!!!!!Enuff tools to do the job, enough sense to use em.Anybody got a spare set of kidneys? Trade?
Reply:Check WeldingCity and some of the other vendors on ebay. I've gotten some good deals on gas cups, collets, collet bodies, gas lenses and even tungstens. (Note: If you buy multiple items from WeldingCity, be sure to get him to combine shipping, you can save a lot of $.)I'm not a good enough tigger yet to know whether the cheaper tungstens from overseas work as well as the more expensive ones you find here, but they DO work. I've had good luck with the 1.5% (gold) and 2% (blue) lanthanated ones.
Reply:ebay is a good place to look. I found a lifetime worth of cups and collets from a shop that was closing up for about $75 all was weldcraft brand for the wp-17. Every once in a while these deals show up otherwise the other stuff you find on there is still decently priced. HTP has good prices on consumables as well. Just make sure your tungsten is of good quality and brand name not the chinese imported stuff. |
