I have stated that when it comes to buying your machine you should stay loyal to your LWS Now that I'm getting ready to buy a 350 Dynasty I am having mixed feelings........I have heard that the savings are serious when you go to the net for places to buy your new machines.......since I never bought from the internet what is a good place to shop for a Miller machine? Reply:cyberweld seems to be a good place to buy from. Also, have you tried to get your LWS to match the online prices? Sometimes they will do it
Reply:I am considering buying from these guys:http://www.brweldingsupplies.com/sho...w=25&PageNum=3Best price I found during my 2 weeks of research. You are going to save over a grand compared to your LWS.

Reply:I'd look at cyberweld, indiana oxygen, and brweldingsupply for starters. They usually have decent prices, with free shipping, and if I'm not mistaken, no sales tax for out of state buyers. I've recently been shopping Millermatic 252s and 350Ps, and most of the online stores were within 50 bucks of each other, on both machines, as well as the AlumaPro guns. Today, when I was swapping bottles, I mentioned in passing to my LWS (Airgas), the Millermatic 350P I'm interested in. Their listed price was about 20 bucks away from the best price online, and he immediately offered to match that. The limiting factor there will be about 250 bucks of state sales tax (which is not the end of the world, especially as well as they've treated me over the years), and when I go to purchase the machine, I'm going to see if they can't sweeten the deal with a few other things I'll be needing anyway, to eat away at the cost difference due to state sales tax.Who is John Galt?
Reply:I've bought numerous things threw www.weldfabulous.com and have never had a problem. I do like to stay local with a few things but it's hard to compete with things on the net these days.

Reply:LWS have a LOT of latitude except when "higher headquarters" orders them to keep prices high in a region. There is also no particular need to TELL your LWS you bought a machine online. Indiana Oxygen was great to deal with and very helpful with a warranty issue on an ESAB I bought through them. If I buy any more new machines I'll not hesitate to buy from them again.
Reply:yep! Sales tax is a killer. I would rather pay the ups guy. webfabulous has free shipping I belive. never order from them because they're in minnesota. Why a Miller over a Lincoln? Just curious. Hope to buy a new machine this year. DayePound to fit, paint to match

Reply:Now that's just mean!I don't talk to my LWS on specific machines in dollars, I'll give cost + 10% + shipping (if it's special order). Been doing it since before the whole online thing. That said, I think they pluck my eyes for grapes on everything else I buy...Matt

Reply:BC,I'd recommend you give BR Welding in White Plains, MD. a call. Ask for Brant. He's the owner's son. You'll get a better price than what you see the welder listed for on their e-bay site, but you need to call them direct because if it goes thru e-bay they have to pay a commission. It really doesn't matter much which retailer you purchase from (if you're not going to your LWS) since most new Dynasty's drop ship directly from Miller. I ordered my Dynasty 200 from BR and had it in 3 days.Their number is 800-783-3073.Syncro 250 DX Dynasty 200 DXMM 251 w/30A SG XMT 304 w/714 Feeder & Optima PulserHH187Dialarc 250 AC/DCHypertherm PM 1250Smith, Harris, Victor O/ASmith and Thermco Gas MixersAccess to a full fab shop with CNC Plasma, Water Jet, etc.

Reply:BC,Never been in the store itself (they're a real brick and mortar store with a full service dept) but I dealt with Brant on my Dynasty and his dad (the owner) helped me out putting together the parts to convert a Bernard 200 gun to a Hobart 187. Very helpful and knowledegable.Use my "real name" as the guy in Deltaville and Brant may recognize it. I really don't do (not like my old LWS) enought business there that a name would help. Not only did Brant sell me the Dynasty for about $25 less than IOC, he also threw in a new Miller Digital Elite hood for about $50 less than I had been quoted by IOC and Cyberweld.Just good people to deal with. Having a full service dept. was also a plus to me as I think they'd be able to get parts to you pretty quickly. I've never used them for service though. I've got a "great guy--probably one of the best 3 miller techs in the country" located about 70 miles up the road in Ashland, VA. Reply:I just got the dynasty 200dx, I looked at all the internet prices so I kind of knew whatthey were pretty close. Aiegas started out 400 $ higher . Then I saw them at a showand the local miller rep was there. They made a big deal out of quoteing me a "show"price which was still 200 higher than internret price. Eventualy I visited my local praxair.Never been it before since airgas was closer. As soon as I walked in the door they treated me like they WANTED my business ! ( Immagine that ..... )I sat down on the stool and described then what I wanted and the fellow took about 30 minuites to print out prices of 4 variations of it. And his price was within 10$ of theinternet price ! Their store doesn't keep as many little goodies and small fittings andstuff like that. I decided right then beacuse of their attitude that THEY would get mybusiness and my money. I may even write the headquarters and tell them how muchbetter they were than airgas. I think airgas has too much business ! I did have to do tax though.Try Praxair ! Tim

Reply:I bought my 9100x hood through Indiana Oxygen and they were very quick shipping and painless to deal with. I wouldn't hesitate to do business with any of the big online retailers, note the difference between the big ones and ones you haven't heard of before. In Tennessee, the state discourages you to do business with your LWS on any big purchase by adding their 9.25% sales tax to it. When I priced out machines in the past, my LWS wasn't lower than the internet prices I found, they were competitive though, the tax is what makes the biggest difference.........most online dealers have free shipping.Powcon 400SM2-PD60 wire feedersMiller XR controlAlumapro push/pull gunSpeedglas 9100xBFH
Reply:I bought a Vantage 400 last week through my local Praxair branch. They were able to get me the new machine for the same price as I would have payed online (ie: no tax). So in other words they were cheaper than the online retailers and when the tax was added in it was all about the same but my money stayed locally. Now this doesn't always work, I purchased a Hypertherm plasma cutter about a month ago and the local boys couldn't come close on the price, so I went through weldersource.com. Great bunch with great service. As mentioned, I much prefer to keep coin local, but sometimes it's just more feasible to go the other route. Best of luck in your search!SixB_C please don't take this post wrong. I surely don't mean to offend you, you seem like a very helpful person! But I have to smile when people feel this way about their local welding supply. Especially people who make their living on hard money bids. When you submit a bid to a customer, and you are $250.00 over the next guy, how many of your customers are that loyal? This is money / business, nothing personal! Far as service each area is different of course, until a few months ago the only two welding repair shops around here were independently owned. Air Gas, Praxair, and what few independents all sent their warranty work to either one of these factory authorized shops, so there is no reason to fear that you wouldn't get the proper service. It's been years since I had any warranty work done, I never even called the LWS, took the machine right to the repair shop myself. Reply:B_C, if your LWS isn't going to give you the same deal as what you can find off the Internet, go Internet...they'll still be making money off the sale at the Internet price. Walked into my LWS and asked what their best deal was back when I bought my MM251 w/spoolgun and told them what I could get it for off the Internet. The manager told me, "I don't know, lets look." When he saw his price I heard a whistle out of him and he told me, "Boy, they aren't making much on that sale." Cyberweld and BRWelding BTW. Next thing out of his mouth was, "I'll match it if you pay sales tax." because sales tax here was 4%, I went local. Since than the same manager has met or beat the best Internet prices on other items. Walk them through it and if you can't get a deal from them go to where you can. When I purchased my Hypertherm welder I tried the 'other' LWS here in town as my LWS didn't have access to Hypertherm. Short story, they wanted $600+ over what I could have one shipped in from Kalispell, MT...that's $600+ more AFTER shipping was factored in. Reply:BC,Understand fully your relationship with your LWS. Those guys are important to our sucess also. I have an excellent relationship with my LWS, however, when it came time to buying a new welder, HE was the one that told me he couldn't compete and to buy the machine from wherever I could get the best price. This comment seemed a little "strange" to me until we discussed it in more detail. Seems that all dealers/distributors get the same pricing from Miller. Except in major commercial sales, everyone pays the same for the machines they're selling. My LWS is not a "big name" (Airgas, Arcet, etc) and focuses more on the profit from after the sale items (consumables) than he does on new machine sales. In other words, he's more interested in my "continued business" than he is about "not making a few bucks" on a new machine. The "margins" some of the on line guys are operating with are unreal for a brick and mortar store. I'm guessing that IOC, BR, etc. are making less than a couple hundred bucks off the selling of a Dynasty 350. That kind of "non profit" shouldn't make a big difference to the guy you're used to paying $300+ a month for gas, $200 a month for filler, etc, etc. Here, and I'm pretty sure it's the same where you are, the best "Miller Service Facility" doesn't care where you bought the machine. He's either going to get his money from Miller (warranty) or you're going to be paying him direct. Also, in that regard, my repair guy tells me that "Miller is great to deal with on warranty".I'm all for "Supporting your LWS" especially if he treats you fairly, but in today's times a buck is a buck and your first responsibility is to yourself and your business. I think you have to ask yourself, "Where's the Value Added" by buying locally.Syncro 250 DX Dynasty 200 DXMM 251 w/30A SG XMT 304 w/714 Feeder & Optima PulserHH187Dialarc 250 AC/DCHypertherm PM 1250Smith, Harris, Victor O/ASmith and Thermco Gas MixersAccess to a full fab shop with CNC Plasma, Water Jet, etc.

Reply:Yeah, the online stores may only make a few hundred off the sale of a new machine. But the machine drop ships from the manufacturer. The online place gets your money in hand before they order the machine. So they're making a few hundred $ from shuffling a little paperwork. Reply:Hey B_C,I'm with the fellows who also buy online. I do give my LWS a chance to match a price within reason & I definitely take into consideration the 6% sales tax here. I gave him the opportunity to make a sale when I was ready to buy a new plasma, TD Cutmaster52, & his best price & bottom dollar was $200 over the online price & then the sales tax was added. I thanked him & left it at that. They do take care of me & give me excellent service/price on most everything else I buy there, so I stay with them.
