I am building a custom driver back rest for stock seat on my motorcycle and need to weld up a few parts. I would prefer someone who has the equipment and knowledge to TIG weld. Below are pics of what I need welded. The main bars are 1/4" thick. The sides of the box are 3/16"t. I am unemployed right now and don't have much to spend. I have been woodworking for 30 years, maybe some kind of trade?TIA!!!!Tom F.Hobart Handler 190 mig gunWilton Vise Restoration

Reply:AWESOME ZAP ! Sounds like he should take the bike on a road trip.  Hopefully some member might be right next door to help out.  It's a great feeling helping someone out for free on a 10 minute job.. Within reason that is.
Reply:Maybe he can turn a nice pen or something to send to Zap with the parts, ?Good trade.Burt _____________________Miller Syncrowave 250Millermatic 211Miller 375 Plasma Cutter Hobart Handler 12010FtDrillBit.com
Reply:Woodworking?  Me too. Congratulations on that fine bend you got in that steel bar. That must have been a challenge.Hey~!! It's a hobby. It's not supposed to make sense~!!

Reply:I had sent Zap a pm thanking him for the great offer. If I didn't find someone local then I would take him up on it. And yes a wood pen would be a great idea to go in the package. Well I think I found someone local. I meet him tomorrow after he gets off work.  Will see how it goes. I will post a finished pic when done.Tom F.Hobart Handler 190 mig gunWilton Vise Restoration
Reply:Wow, life got in the way. I did find someone local to weld it up. They did a okay job. Here a few pics after grinding and powder coating.I want to thank all of you. I really want to buy my own welder, but it will have to wait until I am fully employed and caught back up. When I do I will be back for help and advise (I will need it).Tom F.Hobart Handler 190 mig gunWilton Vise Restoration
Reply:You need to add a "Jam nut" to the adjusting bolt like I mocked up in the photo.  A couple of reasons for this. Without a jam nut to keep the bolt secure, it will "self adjust" and the back rest/lumbar support will lean further back all by itself going down the road.  Also, with the bolt free to wiggle about in the threaded hole, the threads in the hole (and bolt) will soon disappear. Reply:What is the back rest made from. Hopefully not 1/4" plywood. I would make sure its strong enough that, in a rear impact crash, all that steel bracketry doesnt get driven into your spine.Safety 3rdGump
