I don't have the details of what type of chrome  all I knowits  chrome pipe. I took the job and they said that there probably will be at a lot of chrome  to weld.. I have no chrome experience. Can you guys give me a run down of the do's and don't So I will not be totally blind?? Um all ears to hear. What any of you, guys have to say.
Reply:Some kind of chromium steel pipe?I would say your first question is what is the alloy in particular.Weld like a "WELDOR", not a wel-"DERR" MillerDynasty700DX,Dynasty350DX4ea,Dynasty200DX,Li  ncolnSW200-2ea.,MillerMatic350P,MillerMatic200w/spoolgun,MKCobraMig260,Lincoln SP-170T,PlasmaCam/Hypertherm1250,HFProTig2ea,MigMax1ea.
Reply:I have no more information. But chrome pipe.. I do not have any experience so anything will Help me!.. Or just tell me what I'm gonna screw up on lol.. I have came along way but if you wanna know the truth i always screw it  up first. And in the next job! I got it!
Reply:chrome molly pipe maybe? Do you know where is it being used? Welding chrome-moly pipe requires some very specific quality control. Regardless of the grade or the welding process used for welding, maintenance of specific preheat and interpass temperatures cannot be over emphasized. This helps controlled slow cooling of the weld. A range of preheat temperatures from 121-204oC (250-400oF) can be used, depending on the thickness of the material being welded. In-service pipes exposed to temperatures above 450oC (850oF) for an extended period of time often exhibit temper brittleness. It is especially important to preheat these materials when repair is being attempted.
Reply:The piping will be a  power plant if I'm not miss taking I believe it is p 91 chrome
Reply:no weld certs required for the Job for power plant parts ? no wps pqr and so on ?Miller Xmt 350Lincoln Ln-25Ahp 200xSmith Gas Mixer AR/HTig is my Kung FuThrowing down dimes and weaving aboutInstagram http://instagram.com/[email protected]
Reply:get ready for a lot of sweat and heat     P91 will be at least 400 degree preheat.weld it pretty much like stainless, TIG root with a purge. Use strips of Kaowool in the gap to hold the purge in, or use heat tape if they have it.you'll probably have to wear a respirator or even an air hood

Reply:You won't be preheating with a tiger torch.  Induction heating covered by blankets up to an 1" either side of the joint.  Hot and awkward.
Reply:9Cr and 1 MoBig time preheat, serious PWHT, almost always 100% NDT.  If the outfit doing the fab is squared away, there will be multiple procedures for not just welding, but material ID, filler traceability, welder ID per joint, etc.The wps should have pretty tight restrictions on many of the variables.Lots of people preheat a minimum of 3" from the joint, some even more.  Induction is probably the best, and its nice to have the multi thermocouple monitoring feature to record every PWHT after the weld is completed.Experience is something you get right after you need it
Reply:you could have a look to the below link that's no longer there........Last edited by 7A749; 09-30-2013 at 08:12 PM.
Reply:wareagle,CrMo steels are mostly used for high temperature service (eg: in power plans to transport overheating steam) since they have high creep resistant at high temperatures. They should be welded with matching filler metals as well as you shall strictly follow a precise WPS. In addition please note that such weldments are highly crack sensitive and thus you shall follow precise heat treatment (have a look at this link for heat treatment of P91: regardspw35Last edited by 7A749; 09-30-2013 at 08:15 PM.
