We are doing a project looking at the fallout from the economic downturn - particularly on smaller tech-based companies in the welding arena.  By tech based I mean a company that had its own technology it was selling.  Can anyone think of any names?  Anywhere in the country is fine - we will then look to find contacts and ask some questions about what happened.  Thanks in advance.

Reply:Pow con, vice-grip (not really tech, but tools). Can't forget the daddy of all tech companies, Harbor Freight. Just see how their quality has declined since the recession?

Reply:Originally Posted by DSWIt's been a while, but from what I recall. I think the feds made them break up Hobart at the time of the sale to prevent an "unfair advantage" by having one company hold too much of the industry under their control. ITW got the "homeowner" end and someone else (I forget who tonight) got the industrial end of the company.
