Good morning I've come for guidence and support. Current outfit is a Ranger 9 running stick n tig. I now have a production run coming but it will have to be outdoors welding up to 1/4 thick mild steel. I would like to be able to build at my shop but that is out of the question. I'm in the works for a wire feeder for the Ranger 9 running flux core 030 or 035 wire with a distance of 150 ft from the ranger 9 What kind of feeder would be best for my needs?Thank you for your replies
Reply:LN-25 FCAW running 232 or Core8

Reply:Hello LMironworks, the other folks have given you a very solid suggestion for using an LN-25. Depending upon what comes your way in the way of used equipment or whether you are possibly looking to go new, there are also a host of other choices that you can consider. Just about any voltage sensing feeder will work for running self-shielded flux-cored wire off of your machine. Miller 12VS or 8VS are great suitcase feeders, Hobart Hefty CC/CV could be another choice, there is a similar feeder manufactured by ESAB that can fit the bill, don't quite remember the model right now. An older LN-22 would also work, yet it certainly doesn't have the sort of flexibility of the 25 model. I am not ambsolutely sure, but with the Ranger 9 you may even be able to operate a shop type feeder from it, however it would require a very long additional control cable to handle the contactor engagement and gas solenoid acctuation( I realize you said that you would be running self-shielded wire, yet for future applications it might be nice to have the capability). Anyways, good luck with your project and keep everyone informed on your progress. Best regards, Allanaevald
Reply:you could also look for a Profax which can be found as several rebrands, ESAB 23a, Airco AH20e I think L tec and Linde also and possibly a millermatic 2 or something like that. They will run off CC or CV depending on the control u have with it. Plus is you can do Aluminum mig but u r limited to 4" spools. http://profaxlenco.com/index.php?q=catalog_profax&p=71Plus is the gas valve is in the handle and they come with 30 or 50' leads stock... I have 2, The Profax with a Miller WC-3 I got for $100 of craigslist.Last edited by soutthpaw; 05-04-2011 at 07:40 PM.Tiger Sales: AHP Distributor www.tigersalesco.comAHP200x; AHP 160ST; MM350P, Spoolmatic 30A; Everlast PowerTig 185; Thermal Dynamics 60i plasma. Reply:We use the Miller Suitcase X-Treme 12 VS, voltage sensing feeders. I've been real happy with them. We run them on Lincoln and Miller CV power sources as well as a Miller CV engine drive. Most of the time we use gas shielded flux core in them. I feel sure any good quality VS feeder would perform just as well.
Reply:Thank You for your replies and suggestions. I made the purchase of a LN-25 unit today from my LWS based on your suggestions and the LWS. This unit will certainly fit my need. They gave me a break on there display model as well, which is nice to help me out. I;ll keep you all posted with the results of the work as time progresses on.
Reply:AhhhhhhAnother neat little toy, currently I'm limited to the spool gun in-house but this now has my eyes. Reply:Yep I had not heard of them till I saw the one on craigslist, then did some research and found out they are a major manufacturer and they are in the USA... the reason they are cheap used is probably cuz of the fact many do know know of the brand/company... the other one was an OEM on the Airco I just bought the entire machine for $150... just keep yer eyes peeled, the deals are out there. every time I see one of these locally in this price range i am going to buy it..Tiger Sales: AHP Distributor www.tigersalesco.comAHP200x; AHP 160ST; MM350P, Spoolmatic 30A; Everlast PowerTig 185; Thermal Dynamics 60i plasma.
