First The CartSecond The TableThird The Saw StandAnd Number four.So now the question is Powder Coat, Linex, or Clear Coat.
Reply:nice!
Reply:Cool, but what is the purpose of number 4? And how is it secured to the truck?I feel like you should put a handle on the welding cart to grab it and push it around. And maybe a way to hang your grinding wheel and pliers on the side.Torchmate 2x2 CNC with Flashcut CNC controlsHypertherm Powermax45 Esab ET220i Razorweld 195 MigRazorweld 200ac/dc TigTormach 770, Tormach xstechRazorweld, Vipercut/Vipermig, SSC Foot Pedal Dealer
Reply:# 4 is a headache rack it protects the cab and back window. The first Pic is the frame that I built the upright off of you can see the frame in pic 4 too.  The frame goes around the fuel tank and is bolted to the top rail of the bed.The cart is a work in progress I plan to put a draw on it and maybe a handleGrinding wheels are hanging from the work bench (see the saw pic) and pliers live in the tool box when not in use.
Reply:Not bad.We do need to talk about how you do angles though. I'm sure you noticed the joints don't fit up right the way you cut the tube, yet it looks like it's the same material for the whole project. Instead of cutting a 90 on one piece and a 45 deg angle on the 2nd, you want to cut 1/2 the angle on both pieces. In the case of a 45 deg angle, 2 - 22 1/2 deg angles. The angles don't have to be perfect ( though it helps) but close makes the fit up much easier.2nd general comment deals with using the level the way you did on the truck. I've seen a bunch of guys get F'd this way. You can do this IF ( big if) you can get the truck level to start. Usually this means you need a good reference that is level to start with. Just because the ground is "level" doesn't mean the truck sits level. Weak springs, uneven loading etc can often cause a vehicle to sit uneven even on level ground.Same applies in the shop. If your base line isn't level to begin with, setting the rest level won't help. I've seen any number of projects that get "premade" in one location and look "perfect", look way out of whack  because they are not straight to the members around them. Usually the best way is to set up a base line and take all your measurements from this. That could be a level line, but most times it's simply a straight line. A  2x4, length of angle iron etc will extend this "imaginary" line out so you can measure.Another general note is most garage floors are neither flat or level, and I've seen any number of projects F'd simply because some one forgot this and then used a level for layout. If the project is large, I will set up saw horses and level all of them 1st, and then use that as my reference to work from. In this case you can use a level, because you used the level to set your base line up. Keep in mind you need to level in both directions, North / South, East / West. If not you will twist the project. For me it's easy, I have a laser level, but a water level is just as effective and accurate and costs a lot less..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Reply:DWS Thanks for the tip on the angles that will work better next project. With the level when I was mocking it up on the truck I was using the longer level instead of the the main cross tube to visualize the line and length I was going to need before I cut the tube.  My welding table has adjustable feet so it was really close to being level. If you look at the pic you can see 4 different levels, a angle finder and a tape measure on the table.  I was using all the measuring tools I had to get everything. mostly the levels where used to get things close and them I double and triple checked with the tape measure.   GambleIt is a auxiliary fuel tank so I can carry more fuel then the stock tank allows.  The tanks in plumbed to the stock tank and gives me the ability to carry 120 gallons. For my long road trips to the race track.  With a little planing I pick the cheapest diesel on my trip and fill up. On one trip from San Diego to Seattle I save over $75 dollars by filling up when I wanted and not when my stock tanks is empty.
Reply:If you look at my thread on here titled "Welding Table Additions" you may want to add a receiver type set up to your table, and make a mount for your bandsaw to go in it. That would keep you from having to clamp and unclamp to use it. You could also use it in the recever hitch on your truck, if away from the welding table. Could you post a few more pics of the bandsaw set up? I'm gonna have to sneak off and buy me a bandsaw now and make one of those with the 2" tubing for my table. Get it all fixed up and working before the ole lady even knows I have it.Is that auxiliary tank in your truck 120 gallons or does the 120 gallon figure include the stock tank + this tank? Do you have plans to add a pump and hose to that tank so you could refuel something else from it, or is it to be strictly for the truck's use?http://weldingweb.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=88711   welding table additionsLast edited by Bistineau; 02-23-2012 at 11:31 AM.
Reply:@dweir247 I've been thinking of getting an auxiliary tank as well. Does yours have a pump that refills the original tank or does it just flow into it? Also, do you notice the weight of the gasoline shifting much when you turn?Millermatic 252Miller Digital Elite Helmet

Reply:BistineauI already have the trailer hitch tube. Just have not welded it on yet. For now I have no plans to add a pump I don't have any need for one. YET.  The AUX tank is 90 gals and the stock is 34 gals  so its really 124 (plus a couple gals more if I spent the time to push the air pocket out of the stock tanks) I just say 120Gals its easier.TwoTonTexThe tank is gravity fed to the stock tank thought the vent line I have a shut off valve to stop the flow if I need to. The tank has baffles in it to reduce the sloshing. With the windows down I hear it sloshing a little. The truck moves a little but nothing crazy I don't notice if i'm not paying attention.
Reply:I have the same saw. How do u lock the trigger so you can cut using two hands? I couldnt find a trigger lock, am i missing something? I use a piece of 3/4 by 1/8 bent in a "c" to lock the trigger down. Reply:Blue spring clamp in bottom right of pic.Simple and effective.Last edited by dweir247; 02-23-2012 at 08:26 PM.Reason: PIC  drawing not working
Reply:All nice pieces.  I also use a hand clamp for the trigger.  But then I have the saw plugged into an on-off pedal switch.  It lets you turn the thing on and off a lot easier, especially in an emergency.Now... what about some primer and paint on all this stuff?  Rust never sleeps, you know.  Jack OlsenMy garage website
Reply:JackThe headache rack will be powder coated or linex when i get back from a work trip.I know I should have painted the saw stand already.the table and cart are not finished yet so I'm waiting
Reply:Kinda limited but....Maybe put a guard of some sort over the "Unused" part of the blade..One slip and there goes a knuckle..or worse...I like it!...zap!Last edited by zapster; 02-23-2012 at 09:28 PM.I am not completely insane..Some parts are missing Professional Driver on a closed course....Do not attempt.Just because I'm a  dumbass don't mean that you can be too.So DON'T try any of this **** l do at home.
