Hello,     I have been an observer on this site for quite a while and only recently decided to join.  I have been welding for around thirty years....mostly TIGing aluminum.  I was looking around the site and have not noticed many pictures of younger welders.  My son, who just turned eight asked me if I could post his pic's of him welding here.  His name is Caleb and like every other kid he enjoys playing his video games.  BUT....every time I go to the shop he wants to tag along.  He had rather be welding than playing on his X-Box!!!  He is learning to MIG and has already has a good, steady hand on him.  He is very good at TIG welding and has done some really nice welds for an eight year old.  So, I promised him I would post some pics of him on here. Reply:You never know who will be able to weld right off the bat or who will not.A previous girlfriend wanted to try TIG welding when I was building my car. Had never touched a welder of any kind before. Gave her the tig torch and showed her how to get a puddle going on a flat part. She then fused 2 pcs of steel together as nice as anything I had ever done. Took the helmut off, said that was cool and never seemed to have any interest again. Lots of people tried it in my shop, none did as well as she did.Chassis builder on another forum did the same thing with his 12 year old neice, after 30 minutes she was laying down alum beads to make most welders cry.You never know, hand eye coordination and attention to detail is all that is needed. Settings can be learned and if the welder is talented then probably does not even have to be that close. LOL
Reply:You guys are paranoid...  Simple .zip file, save to a folder, then use your AV and AM/AS scanners, that's why we have them right?  If the contents have anything but a PHOTO file in them (you won't get infected by .jpg or .jpeg's) simply delete!Sheesh...Great Photos OP...  (put them here so it's easier to see... any issues with that, simply ask a moderator to remove them...)Cheers, Attached ImagesMiller Diversion 165120 amp Buzz BoxVictor Oxy/Ace Oxy/LPGSmith "Little" Oxy/LPGHypertherm Powermax 30Lot's of Misc. tools n' crap....

Reply:Bashing people for being computer safe. Is bad.Being computer savy. I know you can download a zip and view the contents without threat. And if its only a media format. You won't get malicious code from your viewing program attempting to decode the file. With the exception of FLASH Player. If you don't know. And you refuse to "be brave". Your a smart man not to risk you PC.I bet that kid is having a blast welding. Reply:On the Internets (insert president name here), anyone with 3 posts and some zip files is up for discussion. However, having a kiddo of my own.... a little girl...... nothing would make me smile bigger than to have her take an interest in welding.Buzzman.... you are lucky to have a kiddo who enjoys something worth a darn at such an age. If he keeps it up, by the time he gets to high school, he will be worth more than any one else his age.Congrats.......
Reply:Thanks guys.  No virus or anything like that...I just wanted to post a few pics of my son since he asked me to for his 8th birthday which was on february 1st......actually I am not sure how to upload pictures here.  Last night when I tried to upload these pictures my computer automatically saved these pics (which were taken with my phone by the way)  this way.  I tried to change it but had no luck.  I am not the best on the computer as my kids probably know more than I ever will.  Also, I am very proud of him and his desire to weld.  As soon as I figure this photo posting out I will upload a few pics of his first tig welds.  Oh and I almost forgot to mention.....you guys have the best forum on welding here bar none....much better than all the others I have been to!!!!
Reply:Great to include our Kids in our Profession, work, hobby, etc. My son is 8 and is wanting to try to weld. i am going to find time to just let him go at it. Hope he does as well as your 8 year old is doing... Great Pics!jbmLincoln 305GUnion Carbide TorchDon't Worry About the Mule~Load the Wagon!
Reply:My .02 cents worth:  1.) It's great when kids or teens can do anything outside the home that's legal, especially if it's educational.  2.) I'd have to go overboard with eye protection and clothing protection for them when welding.  It's a little soon to burn retinas and send sparks flying for me.  But hey, Grid-iron football isn't safe either!  -All the Best -Mikey-MikeThurston WeldingHuntington, IN
