This is a boom repair I did about 10 months ago. Not sure how the operator did this, but it's back on the machine and running. Attached Images

Reply:This is just a guess, but I'd say it probably involved digging with the tracks crossways with the ditch, having the bucket in a single bucket wide ditch, and tracking sideways... I've got a 24" wide bucket for a PC200 that is twisted in such a way that I figure the stick of whatever machine it was on probably resembled that one.  It was a rental bucket, that the salesman threw in with a PC200-8 we bought.
Reply:What type of welding process did you use?  SMAW, GMAW, GTAW????  What size amps out and which consumable did ya use?  It looked beautiful!Lincoln Power Mig 216Lincoln AC/DC-225/125Miller  625 X-Treme PlasmaMiller 211 Forney 95FI-A 301HF 91110Victor Journeyman O/PMilwaukee DaytonMakita  Baileigh NRA Life Member
Reply:looks great, what paint was used and how was it applied?
Reply:I was going to say it was tweaked by the operator using the boom as a support while trying to walk the tracks.  It puts a heck of a twist on the knuckle joint and boom box.  I have had to burn the pin completely out on both sides and let the extension lay on the ground then remove the back pin and drag it in the shop.  Once I rebuilt the box and plated it over the weld repair section I had to re-line bore the pin hole and make a new pin for it.  Only reason they didnt fire the operator is because he owned the company.  A couple of weeks after I finished repairing that he walked a track off and slid down an embankment into a retention pond.  That was a mess and a half and took 2 days to get it out and back up on both tracks.   It was OK though it gave me job security and he didnt mind paying overtime or extra if it needed to be done.  Never had a "can we do it this way and save" conversation with him ever.  Looks good all painted up and finished.BobI'm spending my Kids inheritance, I dont like him that much anyway!!!!!!Enuff tools to do the job, enough sense to use em.Anybody got a spare set of kidneys?  Trade?
Reply:Like its been said, If your going to be stupid you better at least be able to afford it. Id say he was trying to push something over with the bucket knuckled in close and turning the carriage.
Reply:However that stick got damaged this is a truly talented repair.  With the amount of twist in it I think most would have scrapped it and replaced it.  Nice save."The reason we are here is that we are not all there"SA 200Idealarc TM 300 300MM 200MM 25130a SpoolgunPrecision Tig 375Invertec V350 ProSC-32 CS 12 Wire FeederOxweld/Purox O/AArcAirHypertherm Powermax 85LN25

Reply:Welcome to the site, VERY nice work on the stick.I will guess he was trying to break a foundation or wall by swinging.Last edited by Stick-man; 02-24-2012 at 08:18 PM."Where's Stick man????????" - 7A749"SHHHHHH!! Reply:Thanks alot for the positive comments guys. These are the kind of jobs I live for. I love being put to the challange of bringing a piece of equipment back to new or better than after someone has trashed it. After 40plus years in this business I still get a hoot out of it.

Reply:Beautiful!  Guessing from the color that it's Hitachi or was it a foreign knock-off (like Doosan)?Lincoln AC225 & MigPak 140, Lincoln Magnum SpoolGun, Miller Spectrum 375-X Plasma, Syncrowave 200 TIG, Millermatic 252 MIG, Miller Digital Elite, General 7x12" horiz/vert bandsaw, 3' box/pan brake, 20 ton press, milling machine, 12x28 lathe, etc.

The driver had managed to wrench and tear the T-bar sideways at a 45 degree angle about half way ripping it off.. I honestly don't want to know how many tons he was towing. We had to break out the heating torch and do a bit of blacksmithing to get it all back into square in addition to putting a couple of splice plates in. Made a tidy profit though.

Reply:Nice job! Reminds me of my old job. If you had to put a price on this repair parts, labor, paint etc. what would it be worth? In my old job I was never involved in pricing the cost of a repair only did the work and now I am trying to comprehend just what I was worth. At this point I could assist at this level of work I can no longer do it physically.
Reply:Wow, that's impressive work.  How did you straighten it?  What did you weld it with and what was the amperage?
