I have been lurking here for a while and just now joined. It is nice to have so much information in one place.I have been welding for a while with a little 110V flux core wire welder. I decided to step up to a 220V welder. After researching on this site, it seems the Hobart 187 is the one to have. I really like the 210, but it is out of my price range. So, I went to Tractor Supply today and bought a 187 on sale for $549. I had to stop by Home Depot to get something else and noticed that they had the Lincoln Weld Pak 180 on sale for $501. From the research I have done on this site, it appears that most prefer the Hobart. However, given that the Lincoln is $50 cheaper, should I get it instead? The thing that I like about the Lincoln is that it can accept a spool gun. The Hobart seems much better made. The wire feed mechanism is heavier duty and it has 7 voltage settings to the Lincoln's 5. Also, the Hobart is made in the USA and the Lincoln is made in Mexico. Your opinions are appreciated.
Reply:Hobart FTW.I bought mine new last fall on black friday, and I love the thing. Its a great machine, with a nice arc, and its a dream to run. The additional voltage adjustments are nice to have as well. Im happy with mine, and Id buy it again in a heartbeat. Actually, Id save up and get an ironman, but if i was looking for another smaller 220v welder, itd be this one again. I havent had a single problem with it, although Ive only put about 20lbs of wire through it.[Account Abandoned 8/8/16 Please Do Not Attempt Contact Or Expect A Reply]. See you on YouTube! -ChuckE2009
Reply:I decided to keep the HH187 and am glad I did. I welded up a rose trellis for my mother today (her Mother's day present). I can't believe the difference between 110v and 220v. I have never wire welded with a 220v welder before. It welds much smoother and the penetration is much, much better.
Reply:I picked up my HH187 a week or so ago and just got time to mess with it today. Before this I had a miller 135, you are correct in saying the 220 units are as different as night and day. Wow is all I can say and I would go out and buy this thing again in a heartbeat.I don't doubt that the Lincoln is a nice welder as well but I did a lot of searching around on here before I made my decision and it does seem that the HH187 got the nod. I read very few threads where anyone said the lincoln was better. I think you made the right decision.
Reply:I actually have both. The Hobart welds smoother but I have had to change the liner twice.Miller Dynasty 700Miller Dynasty 200Miller 350pMiller 252Hobart Handler 187Lincoln Weld pack 180Victor O/AHypertherm 1250Hobart Airforce 500IPractical cnc |
