Reply:Looks like it was just cut out from a peice of flat plate, no welding required. Except for the two rods.Last edited by Bistineau; 02-28-2012 at 07:52 PM.

Reply:What they said.
Reply:What did they say?   ...zap!I am not completely insane..Some parts are missing Professional Driver on a closed course....Do not attempt.Just because I'm a  dumbass don't mean that you can be too.So DON'T try any of this **** l do at home.
Reply:You have already heard how to do it cut it out of one piece. Now I will tell you how not to do it, cut two pieces, bevel the edge to weld. Clamp with a miter clamp, preferably with down pressure also, then do a whole lot of small tacks to keep you heat down. After all that work it still won't be as good as a single piece cut, and believe me its a lot more work than its worth. The part is a couple of minutes on the plasma, a few more with a saw, and about 10 times that trying to fixture it and weld it.
Reply:Map it on CAD and cut it out with a CNC lol
Reply:oh oh. no cnc and no plasma. ill figure somethin out thanks.Zach WareOwnerMid-GA Outdoor & Equipment ServiceByron GA478-960-2014

Reply:What they didn't say.Why cut an "L" and why recess it?Grab a rectangle, or triangle, or circle, or whatever shape comes up in the scrap bin, and go.If you insist on an "L",  how 'bout starting with a common hardware store piece; door reinforcement strap, or whatever it is the pre-drilled "L" shapes are sold as.Good LuckLast edited by denrep; 02-28-2012 at 11:46 PM.
Reply:Go to the hardware store and buy some L brackets...

Reply:might need to have it machined out of a block of 4"x4" cold rolled

Reply:id look in my scrap pile to see what i could see........
Reply:For a few, like 4, I would do and have done it the "how not to do it" way.  I usually have more strap than sheet.  Otherwise, I would have it cut by somebody else.  Just cut straight, no mitering.  Bevel only the end of one part. Clamp,  Weld and blend.  Palm sander really work well for finish blending.
Reply:4" metal blade on the circular saw works good if you have the whole square  piece, masrk it and get er done.
Reply:Just tack two flats together.  Tack both sides to minimize warping.  Grind tacks on one side so it mates up flat with the bottom of the table.  Put a couple holes in each of the two legs of the L so that the screws holding them to the table top prevent the tacks from being stressed.  The tacks basically function to hold the two flats in the L shape from the time you make it until when you get it screwed to the table top.  This is all assuming you don't care about what it looks like since it will be underneath a table.

Reply:That is good looking furniture. That L bracket, I would have laser cut out of at least 3/16 but probably 1/4 if I was doing any more welding than what's shown in that photo. Did around online for a mail-order laser cut shop.

Reply:If you really wanted to weld an "L shape" together, get two pieces of plate and cut one 45 degree on each and but them together and weld away. But the easiest way is what the rest said.
Reply:I'd like to see what this is. I love putting metal and wood together on a project.Op post some full size pics so we can see what it is!
